Jason Garrison as UFA will get paid...

How much do you think he will get? I'm starting to think he will cash in and be too expensive for the Panther's to sign. We'd be putting too much money into our D since we have to sign Kulikov as well.

I think he'll get 4.5-5 from Toronto, Edmonton, or Montreal.

Thoughts?

Perspective;

Jan Hejda, Colorado: 4 years, $13 million

Tomas Kaberle, Carolina: 3 years, $12.75 million

James Wisniewski, Columbus: 6 years, $33 million

Ed Jovanovski, Florida: 4 years, 16.5 million

What some d-men got last year in free agency.

Frozen Failure 02-20-2012 08:23 PM

Dallas might throw money at him, as it was rumoured they were in on trying to sign him.

How much?

cbjerrisgaard 02-20-2012 08:26 PM

He will indeed get paid.

Of course, the question is, will he honestly deserve the contract he will no doubt be signed too?

I think when he gets signed people will say, "he's good but overpaid by 1-1.5 million a year. It's not a big deal, Toronto can afford it."

landfill 02-20-2012 08:29 PM

He is coming home! 3 years 4 million a year, you can take ballard back while we are at it.

That seems too low. Tallon would probably sign him for that.

Pi 02-20-2012 08:34 PM

He's not getting anything from Toronto. We have lots of defensive prospects who are waiting for a chance at the NHL.

Unless Suter tests free agency and Burke finally starts giving up the big bucks, he won't go for defenseman.

Pi 02-20-2012 08:35 PM

Edit...

I don't think he'd get 4-4.5. I'd start with a modest raise and see how he fares there...

I forgot you had Komisarek signed.

Exactly. No need to add more guys that will be overpaid.

runeeres 02-20-2012 08:46 PM

Why the heck would anyone pay him 4 mill a year? That's just absurd.

Yeah, well that's a contract on crack. Garrison is max 2,5 mill. Anything more is a disgrace.

jumptheshark 02-20-2012 08:58 PM

154 games in the nhl--anything over 2mill a year is too much

28 years old with under 2 full years in the nhl, I am not over paying him

That's a good example as to why Garrison won't get that kind of money.

Freudian 02-20-2012 09:02 PM

Garrison is a very solid defender. So what if he is a late bloomer and didn't make the NHL until he was older? I could see any contender wanting this guy on their third pairing. He can handle more minutes without his play suffering so he's perfect injury insurance and he has a great shot for a PP. What's not to like?

He will get more than $2.5M/year for sure.

Laus723 02-20-2012 09:05 PM

Several Panther posters think it's a foregone conclusion that he's heading to FA. Of course, this is based on absolutely nothing from him, and we just can't speculate.

Further, several seem to almost wish this is the case so that we can move him for an offensive player, despite what he's meant to the team, and what the team has done for his development. Players and team don't always care about those things, but Garrison's shown nothing stating he doesn't, and Tallon's said he looks to bring him back.

He could definitely play with a #1 guy and is no less than a second pairing guy.
