Leafs will keep tabs on Nabokov situation in NY.

TSN Radio this morning at 9:30.

Dreger says the Maple Leafs are looking for a goalie upgrade.

He went on to say that they will be keeping an eye on the situation between Don Meehan (Nabokov's agent) and Garth Snow (Isles GM).

Any ideas what he'd cost (as a rental)?

Bob McKenzie at 11:39 this morning: Nabokov would waive NTC to come to Toronto. Respects Ron Wilson.

jdr016 02-24-2012 09:48 AM

Nabakov and Bailey for Schenn :sarcasm:

leafsfan2903 02-24-2012 10:07 AM

If we've seen what rentals are going for, I'd say a 2nd and maybe a lower tier prospect.

Just curious: Why Nabokov? With all of the goalies rumoured to be out there this doesn't seem like a Burkie-type move.

Marlo Stanfield 02-24-2012 10:13 AM

What's it gonna take along with Nabakov to get Gunnarson? Ideally want him or Schenn but from what's being thrown out there, looks like Schenn is part of the Dustin Brown deal.

Probably take the swap with a sign and trade, either way... A 2nd and a cheap prospect I think

What other vet goalies are available? Bernier is unproven, Schneider is going to be expensive. Who else is there?

What goalies? Harding is an injury risk, Bernier is going to be apart of a bigger deal? That doesn't leave much else.

Because most of the other goalies available are like the ones we have, talented yet unproven. Nabakov isn't a sure thing, but at least he's carried the load for a team through the playoffs many times. I'd trade Gus, a prospect and maybe a pick depending on the market for him.

Gunnarsson has been our top defenseman all year. He's a legitimate 2nd pairing guy at 24 years old.

Nabokov is a 38 year old rental goaltender.

Pick one of your top 20-25 year old players and add Nabokov.

Maybe even a pick.

Other than playing for Ron Wilson again, would Nabokov waive his NMC for Toronto? He probably wants go to a team that can go deep in the playoffs. Toronto isn't going to be that team

Gunner is one of the untouchables in TO. Schenn is only available for a top line player. The only guys that might be available to NYI are the dumps: Komisarek or Finger or the near-NHL ready guys: Aulie or Holzer

He might, but I'd think if there really is a thought he would be traded, he's looking at all his options. Toronto, Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia have all made it known that they want help between the pipes. If that's the case and he will okay a move, you'd better believe there's a bidding war brewing.

Which team need goalies?

Teams that are currently expected to go deep into the playoffs?

Nope.

Toronto is a good situation for Nabokov.

Come and play as the #1 (if he can keep it up) with a realistic shot at the playoffs.

Elaborate on Holzer. Isn't he a stay at home type defenseman? Any chance of him for Nabakov in a 1 for 1?

With the crazy amounts that have been going for rentals this year so far, none of those will get a return phone call. For Komi or Finger there has to be a lot more coming back to take either of those contracts. Aulie and Holzer aren't much of an upgrade over what's there now.

I hang up the phone and return Holland's phone call at that point.

Yep, good defensive D. Arguably NHL ready, just lost in the shuffle.

Not for Nabokov, sorry.

Holzer is a promising young dman with the attributes to be a solid 3rd pairing guy.

Great on PK (in the AHL) as well.

Played for Germany at 2010 Olympics (at the age of 20).

Isles should look at Keith Aulie. Towering defensive dman... may need a change.

gabeliscious 02-24-2012 10:45 AM

what would the isles want for strome and nabbakov?

could something around franson, gus, frattin and a 1st be workable? maybe a different defenseman like schenn or gunarson? maybe a different prospect like mckeeg or kadri?

Not being a dick, but, isn't it rumoured he may resign with the Isles? Not exactly set for a deep run.

I am not saying the Islanders won't trade Strome but if they do it's for an upgrade(ie top 2 defenseman or a legit top 6 forward) not a bunch of spare parts

As somebody else pointed out in the Brown and Ott thread

Dreger and every media person in Toronto: Every player possible to the Leafs to get hits

Kvashinator12 02-24-2012 10:55 AM

Keith Aulie for Nabokov
