Lombardi Tried to Get Both Carter & Nash

On TSN radio.

LeBrun said that a source told him that Lombardi offered a huge package for both Carter & Nash out of Columbus before he settled on just Carter.

I'd assume that Bernier was involved.

wabwat 02-25-2012 11:02 AM

Brown and (i think) Loktionov were the other parts.

TSA0402 02-25-2012 11:08 AM

Carter and Nash would be too big.

wahsnairb 02-25-2012 11:09 AM

good on him for trying a movie that huge

thrillermiller89 02-25-2012 11:11 AM

if the other pieces were basically nash for bernier and brown, then howson shoulda done it... i'd imagine penner and either mason/sanford would be in too...

Pi 02-25-2012 11:11 AM

Pretty sure Columbus didn't want Bernier. Can't blame them, he seems a bit overhyped + adding a goaltending prospect in a messy situation is only going to make it worse.

They'll probably stick with Mason and Sanford till they're rebuilding or draft guys like Subban and Vasilevski (butchered it, I know) and those guys will develop by the time Columbus is better.

So...Brown and a third line center for Nash?

officeglen 02-25-2012 11:12 AM

The reason Brown and Bernier became available Thursday night, is Howson wanted something else, and the Kings are looking for:

third team: Brown, Bernier
Columbus: third team player and prospect/pick, LA player and prospect
LA: Nash

And copious amounts of draft picks, I would imagine.

bolded part should have been toronto,if there's any truth to this

Petro Points 02-25-2012 11:36 AM

why a third team ? CBJ could use both Brown and Bernier.

Brown + Bernier + D prospect for Nash can still happen

jonrazor12 02-25-2012 12:17 PM

I proposed a Nash+Carter trade to LA. It was the most logical thing IMO. I think LA was either just lacking the draft picks or not willing to part with Forbort or Toffoli

Telos 02-25-2012 12:18 PM

Well, it is obvious that Nash was our first target, but popular opinion seems to indicate that he won't waive for LA, so it doesn't matter. We got Carter and I think we are moving onto other options. Would have been nice to have both, but it just doesn't seem like moving Nash to the west coast is viable.

I like Carter, I think he is a helluva player. I hope he is great in LA.

That was Gauthier not Burke

They ask for Voynov instead of bernier and all the talk fall down ...

I don't really get it. Alot(most?) players tend to say that they like to leave hockey to hockey and do other stuff in their spare-time. What could be better than Los Angeles to do so? You got the Kings that, if they get their **** together, are close to becoming a great hockey team. And you go Los Angeles where you can do basicly everything you could think of. Also, it's warm and nice weather almost all the time!

I don't know if I'd want Nash. He gets alot of money and I'm not sure he's worth the cap hit or what it would take to bring him to LA.

DL fails to pull the trigger on a trade that gets LA over the hump

Sounds like a broken record to me

Chandrashekhar Limit 02-25-2012 12:31 PM

Thank god that didn't happen.

Can't exactly force Nash to come to L.A.

He can't help it if there are reports out there that Nash wasn't going to the west coast.

Plus, after trading for Carter, IIRC he said that he never found out from Howson if LA was or was not on Nash' short list.

Lol. I hardly doubt this was Dean.

luongo321 02-25-2012 12:36 PM

I bet Columbus is waiting for the draft to see if they can get Schneider. There's no point in doing a big trade involving Nash for Bernier if they can get Schneider in a different trade. (they wouldn't want both goalies). Who knows though? I wouldn't trust Howson managing my team. Hell, I wouldn't trust him on NHL 12.

dannyj10 02-25-2012 12:39 PM

We'll take Brown in Pitt. Roster player/BProspect/2nd get it done?

He may not want to work for Lombardi and Sutter.

Bobby Lou 02-25-2012 12:42 PM

Then Howson is like...well we like Doughty. And then Lombardi had to tone it down.
