Plekanec willing to waive no-trade clause (Agent denies rumour)

Quote:

While Plekanec said Friday that he wasn’t aware of being the subject of any trade talks, The Gazette has learned that the player’s agent let it be known earlier this month that the veteran centre would be willing to waive the no-trade clause which was part of the six-year, $30-million deal he signed in 2010.

Plekanec takes pride in the fact he has spent his entire career with one organization but the frustrations of a losing season and the challenge of having to adapt to a parade of different wingers may have led to a belief that a change of scenery would be best for both parties.

I like Pleky.. But realistically.. If we want to receive something, we're going to have to give something. Don't think we'll get much by offering Nokaleinen and Campoli. So not really surprised by this, especially with the emergence of DD. If he says this last year, I probably beg him to stay, but its a different story now, especially with our place in the standings

HomaridII 02-26-2012 11:05 AM

lol I put this in the rumours thread ..

Hannibal 02-26-2012 11:06 AM

That is interesting. :)

Bill McNeal 02-26-2012 11:06 AM

Uh, that's kind of a random thing to put out there by his agent.

Andy 02-26-2012 11:06 AM

Blowing it up would be a big big mistake.

charlie 02-26-2012 11:06 AM

Wow that was unexpected.

AntonCH 02-26-2012 11:07 AM

Nash?
piece of the puzzle?
just sayin

charlie 02-26-2012 11:08 AM

You have to wonder who has a come knocking for Pleks??

Em Ancien 02-26-2012 11:08 AM

Cha-ching. Time to cash in.

Seb 02-26-2012 11:09 AM

Don't. Trade. Plekanec.

Markowicz 02-26-2012 11:09 AM

I'm definitely not averse to a Plekanec trade, but timing is everything. If he gets traded to a desperate team, that's one thing. But if we're the desperate team trading him, we're likely not going to get full value. At least it will make Monday a little more interesting.

Cupmonger 02-26-2012 11:10 AM

Did not expect that after that last article on him from last night. Though, thinking about it, he did he'd want to play his entire career here, but I guess he could see other teams the same as well. I still love Pleks. I don't know if trading him would be good for us. The entire team is having a bad year. Using his stats as an argument in favor of trading him is irrelevant. I think it would be a huge mistake to trade him. Unless we're ready to put Eller at center or have to draft a top center. Trading for another center would make no sense. No team would want to give a better center, unless we give more in the deal.

Something must be in the works for management to ask Pleks if he would waive.

YMCMBeaulieu 02-26-2012 11:10 AM

Love this part:

"Plekanec has been a part of 18 different line combinations. The longest stretch for any of those lines to play together was 11 games when he was between Michael Cammalleri and Brian Gionta."

Give the guy real linemates instead of **** like Darche. Unless we get an offer we can't pass up it would be stupid to trade Plekanec.

What kind of overpayment would it be required to trade Plekanec away?

Kostitsyn, however, can be had for a low first.

yianik 02-26-2012 11:11 AM

Dont do it. Watch it be D. Roy.

habtastic 02-26-2012 11:12 AM

NOOOOOOOOOO!

He's my favourite!

Someone please tell him The Tank is going strong and that we can give him Yakupov to play with.

Analyzer 02-26-2012 11:12 AM

He won't get traded.

Habaneros 02-26-2012 11:12 AM

it's goona hurt gettin screwed on a Plek deal.

He will go to another team and put up 70 pts a yr,and Montreal will be left with what?

One of the most under appreciated Habs.

If he is wanting out, there some big stink in the kitchen....
I cant blame any vet to be honest, it's been line Bingo for Plek with JM and Randy.

Andy 02-26-2012 11:12 AM

I wonder if management approached him or he approached management.

If they approached him, maybe someone came knocking for Pleks a while back.

LyricalLyricist 02-26-2012 11:13 AM

Plekanec only goes if we package him for elite center or 1st line young center like duchene. I say duchene knowing he's untouchable but either it's for a franchise like player or a young key center that will add to the young core of max, PK, subban, Eller, dd and make us perennial playoff locks.

A prospect that will forever play in the AHL and a 4th round pick.

The usual.

sampollock 02-26-2012 11:13 AM

not sure this is a good thing,

he is a perfect 2nd line centre,

but he has sucked, but his wingers suck too
