Chicago's got a pretty tough schedule. If Toews is gonna be out for a while, I think they're gonna struggle.

Nullus Reverentia 02-26-2012 09:10 PM

Home (9): PIT, SJ, ANA, CHI, PHX, VAN, CGY, SJ, STL
Away (10): EDM, CGY, VAN, MIN, WPG, CGY, EDM, VAN, SJ, NSH

Bold are the games I think we should win. We should pull at least another win from Vancouver and San Jose, don't know if we will though. We should win against Edmonton, Calgary, Minnesota and Winnipeg. I bolded 11 of the 19 games. Thats how many we should have to win at the least to make the playoffs. I think 13 wins would guarentee us a spot, and 10 wins is the absolute least we'll need.

Stars99Lobo37 02-26-2012 09:22 PM

The game against Winnipeg will be fun but one I don't think we'll win for some reason. Just not confident at all about that one. I think we have to get at least 3 points out of the remaining Vancouver games. Calgary is going to beat us at least once, but definitely need to win the other game here and then grab one up there. Ribs is usually pretty good up there especially. Edmonton, Anaheim are must wins. Phoenix, if we want any chance at the Division (not that I think we will get there but is still a possibility), we'll have to beat them. Really need to pick up those two points in Nashville, and outside of that last home game against them where we just looked awful, we've played pretty well against them all year. So definitely a possibility that we can get two points out of that one, hopefully they'll be locked up by then so might rest a few players? I dunno hopeful though. Chicago game, obviously, would be massive if we win at home. Hopefully they're still sucking by the time they get here. Anything we get out of the Pittsburgh game will be a blessing, especially with the way Malkin has been playing. The three San Jose games, we have to treat the Sharks like we did the Canucks tonight. Have a purpose and beat them. Hopefully their injuries continue to pile up and they start beating themselves up from such a bad road trip. 3 out of the 6 points would be awesome. Thankfully only one more back to back the rest of the way.

Gotta stay healthy the rest of the way. Hopefully Benn comes back playing like he has something to prove, like he did last year around this time.

I think we win 12 and get in. Had a very good feeling since Thursday. Crazy that we are 3 out of the division lead.

catters078 02-26-2012 11:16 PM

agreed with Dastars99..i think 94 pts gets you in this year.

so if we win 12 of 19 we make it.

Here a games i think we should win. (not in order)

Edmonton (Away)
Edmonton (Away)
calgary (home)
Phoenix (home)
San Jose 1 (home) 1 of the two home games
Anaheim (Home)
St Louis (Home)
Winnpeg (away)
Minnesota (away)
Chicago (home)

Borderline games that im confident we can win but will be tough

Nashville (away)
Pittsburgh (home)
Calgary 1 (away) 1 of the two up there
Vancouver (home)

Games we probably lose
San Jose 2 (Home) i think we split the two home games vs SJ
San Jose (away) Havent looked like it there this year
Vancouver (away)
Vancouver (away)
calgary 2 (away) split the road games in calgary

catters078 02-26-2012 11:18 PM

Calgary have the softest schedule, but IMO they are the worst team of the contenders vying for 8th...so could drop some of those softies.

yeah I just watched the Oilers whup the flames a week back so it's not like Calgary can count on the soft points against the Edmonton's and Minnesota's of the world like in previous years.

I feel that every home game for the rest of the year is a must win situation. They'll only win about half the games on the road (even if it seems like that's where most of the "easy" games remaining take place), so they need to get their points when they can at home.

Biggest problem is it's almost March.
Stars are 18-39 in March last 4 seasons, which is a winning percentage of 31.57%.
12 of the 39 losses were in overtime/shootout, so a points percentage of 42.1%.

Stars99Lobo37 02-27-2012 12:49 AM

GUH. That's ugly.

Was it 2008 when we only had like 2 wins in the entire month?

________ 02-27-2012 12:59 AM

Yes, it was. I checked on shrpsports, here is the wins breakdown.

07-08 2 wins in 11 games
08-09 5 wins in 16 games
09-10 6 wins in 16 games
10-11 5 wins in 14 games

Stars have 15 games this March.

catters078 02-27-2012 10:44 PM

LA lose in regulation:yo:
Calgary losing in regulation:yo:
Colorado Win in regulation
Anaheim lose in regulation (To colorado):yo:

Pretty good day

Bennrocks 02-27-2012 10:47 PM

Anaheim winning in regulation would have been better... im just happy it didnt go to OT like every game in the league

Stars99Lobo37 02-27-2012 10:48 PM

Calgary falls to St. Louis. Don't think it could've gotten any better.

Stars99Lobo37 02-27-2012 10:51 PM

Blues are 2nd in the West. Wow.

Jere26 02-28-2012 04:12 AM

I can totally see Chicago falling in the standings. Don't believe we can overtake neither Phoenix nor San Jose.

The Power of Hitch!

That team has played some outstanding hockey since bringing him on. Of course, it helps that both of their goalies have at least 5 shutouts. :amazed:

I have a feeling I'm going to say this every week, but this is such a big week! There are a lot of games amongst that pack of teams fighting for playoff spots in the west.
LA@MIN tonight
CGY@PHX tomorrow
CGY@ANA Thursday
ANA@LA Friday
COL@MIN Sunday

Chicago has a tough sked of games (tor, @OTT, @DET) as does San Jose (Philly, Buffalo, Blues homestand) so with a result aginst the Pens and a solid start to the road trip against the Oilers and Flames we could give ourselves a little distance from the chasing pack. Four points from those 3 and I think i'd be happy.

The way I see it, the home game on Wednesday night is a must win (as are all home games from here on out) and I'd like to see the Stars pick up 4 out of 6 points on the road against Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver.. with obviously the most important game to win being the one against the flames.

The competition for the final playoff spots just doesn't seem very good this year - of course the Stars haven't been very good either, but if they can raise their standard of play just a bit they'll beat out the Colorado Avalanches and Los Angeles Kings of the World.

CorwiN 02-28-2012 09:42 AM

I think that if this team can stop losing cleanly in regulation the chances of us seeing playoff hockey in Dallas are pretty good. If we were looking at as many OT/SO points as the rest of the division up until this point, making the playoffs would be a certainty for this team already.

The lack of SO/OT losses this season has made me want to put my fist through the TV.

Modo 02-28-2012 12:54 PM

I'd much rather make the playoffs based on wins, instead of making it on loser points alone and ahead of a team with more actual wins.

Well, at this rate it's distinctly possible that we might fail to make the playoffs but have more/the same amount of wins as whichever team wins the division. I'm not saying the team should shoot for 4 wins and a bunch of OT losses to close out the season, but I think that a few 3-2 OT/SO losses would be greatly preferable to having each loss be of the straight up regulation variety.

There's no point in having a bunch of wins if every loss is a bad loss, costing you a playoff spot.

Personally I'd rather see the league change something with the loser point, but I think they might just screw it up more.

I think most of us would like to have that tiebreaker, and thankfully we do. But when you lose, right now, it needs to be in overtime/regulation. Too often this season, we've lose by two or three goals.

The rest of the schedule, we're gonna HAVE to fight our way just to get into overtime. We have to pick up some points in these losses.

Sony Eriksson* 02-28-2012 01:17 PM

So if Dallas does not make the playoffs does GMJN still have a job with Dallas next season? I pray that Dallas makes the playoffs but its not an easy road.
