Nick Schultz to Oilers for Tom Gilbert

#Oilers acquire defenceman Nick Schultz from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for defenceman Tom Gilbert.

Another local guy...

Seriously, thoughts?

Up7Yours 02-27-2012 11:55 AM

End of an era...

That's Bloomington Native Tom Gilbert to you.

Dr Jan Itor 02-27-2012 11:56 AM

Whoa, straight up?

Hey, This Providence, Christmas!!!

Jarick 02-27-2012 11:57 AM

Hmm...in theory that gives us better puck movement and offense from the blueline. But I've never been impressed by Gilbert all that much.

Lateral move? Need for need? Change of scenery?

Wait and see IMO.

mnwildgophers 02-27-2012 11:58 AM

I have no idea what to think about this trade.

Avder 02-27-2012 11:58 AM

Whats Gilberts cap hit and contract duration?

this providence 02-27-2012 11:58 AM

Happy days.

500k more per year, same length as Schultz(2 more years).

Can't say I'm thrilled but at the end of the day they're both #4/5 overpaid d-men.

Iron Chef 02-27-2012 11:59 AM

Sharks fan here. Like this move for you guys.

Bingo has been updated.

Tom Gilbert:

ASSETS: Is very mobile and a good skating defenseman. Moves the puck quickly and efficiently out of the defensive zone, and can also provide his team with offense. Good on the pinch, he knows his way around the offensive zone. Can log big minutes.

FLAWS: Has improved his compete level but still isn't physical enough for a 6-3, 206-pound blueliner, which limits his overall effectiveness in the defensive zone. Can also make mistakes inside his own end with the puck.

CAREER POTENTIAL: Mobile puck-moving defenseman.

Consensus on the Trade Forum is that we crushed this. Minnesota native, come on down...

$4M cap hit, 2 more years after this one.

State of Hockey 02-27-2012 12:00 PM

I'm so sick of grabbing crappy Minnesotans.

Gilbert will fit in well. He sucks defensively just as much as the rest of the roster.

This will be looked back on as a huge mistake.

mnwildgophers 02-27-2012 12:00 PM

Everyone in trade forum saying we're winning this, I can't say that I know much about Gilbert to be honest. If he's a PMD, I love this move.

**** YES!!!

Also, I think the Clutterbuck commercials are gone now and Koivu All Star should be removed

Couldn't be more thrilled to see Schultz gone.

Not the biggest fan of BNTG, but meh, the excitement of moving Schultz is too much to bear...

Avder 02-27-2012 12:01 PM

So why in the world did Edmonton make this move?

nickschultzfan 02-27-2012 12:01 PM

Actually I'm ok with this move because it actually makes a lot of sense from the Wild's standpoint. :)

bozak911 02-27-2012 12:02 PM

this makes me scratch my head, but oh well... :)

Fel 96 02-27-2012 12:02 PM

I'm wondering if NSF will change his username.

Caior89 02-27-2012 12:03 PM

And thus comes the end of an era.

bozak911 02-27-2012 12:03 PM

oh, snap...
just had a thought...

Is Bloomington Native Tom Gilbert friends with Zach?

Might not be such a head scratcher after all... Although... this probably pisses off Captain Koivu.
