I'm thinking the Habs' performance this season has not been helping.

I know this is a bit off topic, but I wonder if Jean Beliveau lives a comfortable life. I know he's employed by the Canadiens in a sort of honorary role, and he attends a lot (if not all) the ceremonies and large events, but I wonder if he has enough money to live comfortably. He played in the 50s when players weren't millionaires. Sure they made some money but a lot of them had second jobs. He retired way before players were rich, and I'm sure he made a bit of money afterwards but I don't think he's living a luxury life. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Anyway, I hope he gets better. I love seeing him at all the games, he's an important part of the team and the history and I would hate having a team that isn't affiliated to him in any way.

NotProkofievian 02-28-2012 11:28 AM

Terrible news. Get well soon, Gros Bill.

I think the habs take care of him, remember hearing something about habs being the best team that takes care of retired players

Phil Parent 02-28-2012 11:29 AM

He was Vice-President of the team for decades, wasn't he? He should be fine, financially.

Hope he gets better.

Sandvich 02-28-2012 11:29 AM

What is Pierre Gauthier doing !?!?!?!

The n00b King 02-28-2012 11:30 AM

Would suck to see him kick the bucket when the habs are so terribly run.

For a guy with the CH tattooed on his heart, I'd get a stroke too having to see them being degraded the way they have been.

What took Gillett nearly 10 years to build is being undone in less than 2 years....

Indeed. It isn't the first time that he has something wrong with his health if I remember correctly.

Get well. :(

goforit 02-28-2012 11:33 AM

As far as I know, Mr. Beliveau has no trouble financially. Im not certain what the salary for a ambassador is, but couple that with his NHL players pension, and I have no doubts that hes fine. I know he sold much of his personal memorabilia a few years ago, but that was to generate $$$ for his children and grandchildren.

GeneralManager* 02-28-2012 12:02 PM

Worst news of the year. Get well Jean!
