Calling up Redden?

Suppose during the playoffs a bunch of our players got injured. Lets say 3 dmen. Eminger, Del Zotto, Staal. Sauer remains out.

We have:
McD-Girardi
Woywitka-Bickel
??? - Stralman

Would we be compliance with the CBA if we called up Redden or is it illegal since he hasn't played any games this season?

I'd much rather have him be called up than Valentenko or even Erixon in the playoffs...due to experience.

egelband 03-04-2012 05:09 PM

was thinking about this earlier... i'm curious too. he should deffo fit cap-wise.

Even if he was still a capable NHL defenseman, which I am not sure he is, it is absolutely not worth the risk of someone plucking him off re-entry waivers and screwing us with a $3.25m cap hit for the rest of his contract.

Theres no cap in the playoffs...so CBA compliance would be the issue...

Are their even waivers in the playoffs? I understand some things work slightly differently in the post season....

Khelvan 03-04-2012 05:13 PM

If the Rangers need an emergency callup, I assume the order would be something like: Erixon, Valentenko...x...x...Redden.

Rangers1135 03-04-2012 05:34 PM

How is Redden doing in the AHL? Is he too good for them or does he suck there too? I don't watch any AHL games.

bubba5 03-04-2012 05:36 PM

I don't think I want Redden anywhere near this team. Would rather move Scott back.

Callagraves 03-04-2012 05:59 PM

Would never happen. Ever.

IBleedNYRBlue 03-04-2012 06:02 PM

Long answer: Never

Short answer: No

asphyXy 03-04-2012 06:02 PM

Our current D corps:

Girardi, McDonagh, Staal, Del Zotto, Stralman, Bickel, Eminger, Woywitka, Scott.

We have 9 healthy defensemen. Why is Redden even a thought?

There would be absolutely zero risk of a team claiming him off re-entry. None. Though there is no re-entry waivers in the scenario posed in this thread.

However, I think he would be the first call-up from the Whale after Erixon.

Pizza 03-04-2012 06:03 PM

Now that you've said it could never happen.......it will.

They are not all healthy. Torts said so the other night. They're banged up and playing that way. Redden would be a tremendous long shot, imo, but any thing is possible.

nyr2k2 03-04-2012 06:15 PM

Why does this question keep coming up?

He was a bottom pairing defenseman when he last played in the NHL two years ago. Now, he's a mediocre AHL defenseman who's even slower than before, with injury problems to boot. Why on earth would we bring him back up? Tim Erixon or even Brendan Bell would be better options at this point.

Yes, Wade Redden has the edge in experience. He also sucks and is no longer NHL caliber. And I was a Redden "defender" when he was last in the NHL. He's done, guys.

Giacomin 03-04-2012 06:21 PM

Redden seems to have found a permanent home with the Whale!

nyr2k2 03-04-2012 06:22 PM

Have any of you guys asking about a call up actually watched Wade play down in Hartford this year?

NYRFAN218 03-04-2012 06:23 PM

If that situation came up, I think you'd have a better chance of seeing me lace up on the blue line in the playoffs.

Well, Brian Boyle does have experience playing D, so I'd put Redden somewhere on our D depth chart behind Boyle at this point in his career.

Probably not. My experience from all the discussions on call ups is that people just throw out ideas without having any idea what they are talking about.

Barbara Underhill 03-04-2012 07:06 PM

No way the Whale can't lose their captain!

I was thinking the same thing :yo:

Legend23 03-04-2012 07:25 PM

I'll just leave it this way. If we have to bring up Redden the season will be over shortly anyway

He's been pretty nice, but you gotta wonder if it's just cause of the slowness and such

twistedwrister17 03-04-2012 07:39 PM

There's no way this would ever happen. He would be the last player we would call up. He's banished.
