Karlsson Fined For Slash On Bergenheim

Ottawa Senators defenceman Erik Karlsson was fined $2,500 on Tuesday for slashing Florida Panthers forward Sean Bergenheim in a game on Sunday.

Better than nothing

Bounty hits in the NHL .... ?

If it could start anywhere, it would be in Canada. Toronto probably. Or if not Canada, then maybe Philly.

Didn't see one, but he got him with his stick 3 different times.

I'd be really pissed if he didn't get fined for that slash, so I'm glad it got done. It was very dirty that could have caused a major injury.

Kind of wish it was more than $2,500 personally. At a pro salary, fines like that are a financial joke. It was clearly intentionally as he took 2-3 whacks at bergy in a span of 10 seconds

I agree as well regarding the fine. Complete joke and certainly not going to get Karlsson's attention. What bothers me more is that it seemed nobody jumped to the defense of Bergy. Granted I believe it was a one goal game still at that time (Don't think Skille hadf scored yet but could be wrong). Don't think Karlsson is known for playing dirty but the lack of a response bothered me. Teams still tend to take far too many liberties with this team. Good to see the team finally crash the net, get in the slot and patrol the dirty areas. Perimeter play just won't cut it as well all know and hopefully this will start a new trend for the team.

Unfortunately the current CBA states you cannot fine a player more than $2,500, thus why it's pretty much always that amount, because it's a pittance.

I hope in the new one they do it as a percentage of a player's salary, so it adjusts accordingly and can be given a more realistic limit.

As a serious fan of pugilism, I had no problem with no one exacting retribution seeing as how we got the call. Had we not, I would have agreed. And yes, too many liberties, but I think Tallon is working on that.

I thought he should have been suspended because he meant to spear him so it wasn't an accident. To me that's intent to injure and it was blatant.
