No wonder our team is struggling big time!!!

I found on tsn.ca their different power rankings. They have, of course, team power rankings but they also have similar rankings for players at different positions ( C, LW, RW, D & G) and at different levels (OHL, QMJHL, WHL & AHL). They also have charts for rookies, what they call "Non-Qualifiers" (whatever that means) and 2012 UFAs.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the team rankings, we stand 27th (ahead of Minnesota, Edmonton & Columbus)

http://www.tsn.ca/fantasy_news/rankings/nhl/

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On all the NHL level charts, none of our players are considered 'powerful' except Max Pacioretti.

Centers: David Desharnais - 37th http://www.tsn.ca/fantasy_news/feature/?ID=10463In the mi

Left Wing: Max Pacioretti - 11th http://www.tsn.ca/fantasy_news/feature/?ID=10464

Right Wing: Eric Cole - 23rd http://www.tsn.ca/fantasy_news/feature/?ID=31999

Defense: no one http://www.tsn.ca/fantasy_news/feature/?ID=31999

Goalies: Carey Price - 17th http://www.tsn.ca/fantasy_news/feature/?ID=10466

Rookies: Raphael Diaz - 8th & Alexei Emelin - 16th http://www.tsn.ca/fantasy_news/feature/?ID=10841

Non-Qualifiers (?): no one http://www.tsn.ca/fantasy_news/feature/?ID=11372

2012 UFAs: - no one http://www.tsn.ca/fantasy_news/feature/?ID=33370

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In each team's system, it's not a heck of a lot better except for the QMJHL & the WHL.

OHL: no one http://www.tsn.ca/fantasy_news/feature/?ID=11685

QMJHL: Nathan Beaulieu - 36th & Morgan Ellis - 39th http://www.tsn.ca/fantasy_news/feature/?ID=11685

WHL: Brendan Gallagher - 4th & Patrick Holland - 12th http://www.tsn.ca/fantasy_news/feature/?ID=11687

AHL:Nathan Lawson - 20th http://www.tsn.ca/fantasy_news/feature/?ID=11702

I'm aware that these stats don't say it all or take into account each team's or player's situation but, nevertheless, it's something to consider.

No wonder we're 15th in the Eastern Conference & 28th in the league as a whole.

Yeeeeshhh.........

PunkinDrublic* 03-07-2012 06:08 PM

When i looked and saw Halak in the top 5 after playing 38 games. I stopped reading. These rankings are ****in garbage.

Kriss E 03-07-2012 06:10 PM

When I read the title I thought it was gonna be a picture of RC and our D squad.

Em Ancien 03-07-2012 06:10 PM

So you're saying we're struggling because we don't have great talent?

No kidding

Andy 03-07-2012 06:13 PM

No Tinordi on the OHL list? I'm guessing these lists are entirely stats based.

lou4gehrig 03-07-2012 06:14 PM

This is obvious. Only 1 top 5 pick in 20 years. And very few other top 10 picks. We've been overachieving for a very long time by signing bandaid free agents. All it takes is one legit top line forward or top pairing defense prospect to pump those ratings up.

The only reason Edmonton is so low is all their top end talent is playing in the NHL. Edmonton is playing on a similar level to us now, but have poor goaltending and defense and their top players are all very young.

sharks9 03-07-2012 06:24 PM

You shouldn't take these rankings seriously at all. These are ONE GUYS opinion.

Agreed. People talk like he's the next Chara.

How so? I don't think anyone is expecting him to be a number one all-star defenseman.

I'm pretty certain that an overwhelming majority here think he has the potential to be a shutdown D man if it all goes well. I don't see how that's overrating.

Em Ancien 03-07-2012 06:30 PM

Tinordi's probably going to be a good 4.

Don't see why that's overrating him :dunno:

I've never once heard anything close to this. Everyone pretty much thinks he has potential to be a shutdown D.

I certainly haven't overrated the guy and I'm happy with him if he can be a #3-4 in his prime (or, if we were to do to Tinordi what the Flames did to Giordano, he may as well be a top-pairing guy in Magnitogorsk).

What?? A slightly better and not quite as slow Hal Gill?

Its a GODsend for christ sakes.

Poulet Kostopoulos 03-07-2012 06:46 PM

LOL

Of course, we all know Micheal Ryder is better than Kane, Iginla, Alfredsson, etc.

These rankings are based on how they've performed in the not so distant past. It reveals little in terms of the inherent quality of a player.

So not *****. Team loses all the time because players performed poorly. What a revelation!

gusfring 03-07-2012 06:49 PM

Tinordi doesn't dominate in the O. It's that simple.

Habskrieg 03-07-2012 07:04 PM

While I don't take these too seriously. I have been saying it for a while. What sunk us this season is our D. Sure a good big center would help. Say we even got one. We'd still have the same issues.

Our PP has sucked because we always rush in. Rarely are we able to settle in. Rarely are we making shots from the blueline that actually matter (if we even get them off). Because our D isn't able to help on the PP. Why would we have put Plekanec there at some point? Heck I'd say our 5v5 isn't far from without this problem either.

Price's stats look mediocre. Any goalie with "meh" D in front of them would look mediocre at best. Yes, "Price has to steal games", yes "Price has looked weak on a few goals". But we've had low goals against before because we had good D to help Price out. So he could do the things we want him to.

The only reason our D is this bad is because of lack of experience at those spots.

Fix the D first, not the center position, that comes after.

These rankings are very stat heavy (considering the list is for FANTASY teams). Its a self fulfilling prophecy. Our team stinks, so our players aren't very good choices on a fantasy team which means they rank low. Ignoring that, it just doesn't indicate more than who is producing RIGHT now. Ryder is ranked above Pat Kane, Ian White is ranked above Lidstrom, Seabrook, Yandle and Doughty. Halak is not the 2nd best goalie in the NHL. What they are is talented NHLers in very favourable positions right now.

Its even less significant in the CHL, especially where stats don't tell the whole story. Example: in the Dub, Patrick Holland is 12, Mark McNeill is 42. Is Patrick 30 spots better than McNeill, or better at all? No, but he has more value because he racks up points on a very good Tri-City junior team.

Who is expecting a shut down defenseman to dominate besides you ?

I will get blasted for this but I will say it anyways.

THIS is the reason that I do not understand the love for Timmins. He is hailed as a king but his picks are not that impressive.......

It's a fantasy hockey ranking. Fantasy sports analysis does not = real talent analysis.

They are fantasy rankings. Tinordi will never be a fantasy stats guy.
