Brian Burke admires Habs Fans.

At least according to this article :) http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...rticle2365291/

Quote:

When the Toronto Maple Leafs play the Canadiens, he always walks the five blocks to the rink. He admires the flaming passion of Habs fans – French blood easily reaching the natural boiling point of his own Irish blood – and he enjoys the shouts and taunts and even the fingers.

A car skids to a halt by him. He sees the driver put the vehicle into park. Then the driver steps out and just stands there screaming profanely at him while other cars twist and turn past the outraged fan.

“It was great,” Brian Burke remembers. “Absolutely great.”

Andros777 03-09-2012 10:26 PM

That's too bad cause I hate him.

What kind of a loser would stop his car, and yell at the coach of another team? Who could admire that?

I find it hilarious. It's Brian Burke and he's the Leafs GM, what do you expect?

LyricalLyricist 03-09-2012 11:19 PM

I have nothing against Brian Burke. He's a loud mouth and overrated GM, but he cares about his players and is a leader as a GM. He really tries to get the job done and I admire that...however, as I said, he's overrated.

DekeLikeYouMeanIt 03-09-2012 11:37 PM

Obviously sarcastic. Not sure what conversation this is supposed to stir.

habtastic 03-10-2012 12:37 AM

I don't remember him thinking it was great at that draft.

I don't think Leaf fans would even recognize Gauthier if they saw him. Then again, the man moves in mysterious ways. Makes moves like that too.

Also, Burke may do some good work for certain causes and I'm sure he's not the spawn of Satan, but he's a ****** in the hockey world. His tough, take-no-bs routine is so tired. He'll probably do a decent job by the end of his tenure, but then again, compared to what they were doing before with JF Jr., anything is better. Still a ******. Fitting that he has found his way to the leafs.

Whitesnake 03-10-2012 06:50 AM

Not sure what's to hate about Burke. The "hate" part happens when you don't like the moves your GM makes. He's not my GM. He can't do as many stupidities he'd like, I can't hate him. Yet, I love how he addresses the media and the fans. The result might not be there yet, but at least they know a lot more why.....

Boris Le Tigre 03-10-2012 07:38 AM

Burke is a SupaStar!

They should make a reality show for him... Oh Wait.

He will be there star of 24/7 next year - barring the guillotine dropping.

Brian Burke is one of the most handsome men over 70yr's old, IMO.

His face was entirely de-boned in 1996, lovely youthful appearance like Bob Rae.

Brian Burke's not a coach.

Indeed, and I'm not entirely sure that his face was the only thing that was de-boned... just sayin'

Halifaxhab 03-10-2012 07:55 AM

Is he sucking up cause he thinks he's about to lose his job and there will be an opening here?

TinordiandSubban 03-10-2012 07:56 AM

I fully support his efforts to get Don Cherry fired.

Agnostic 03-10-2012 08:50 AM

Strange article and a head scratcher. I admit to reading it over a few times looking for the sarcasm I was almost certain were in his words. Telling Leaf fans you admire Habs fans in any way, serious or not, is a sign of frustration . But Burkie himself angled his way into the centre-of-the-universe so I can't exactly feel sorry for the stress it's placed on him. He asked for it, and I am sure if his team was in first place he'd be relishing the praise heaped by Cherry and the CBC.

Boris Le Tigre 03-10-2012 09:05 AM

Can you imagine if we plucked Burke. He couldn't understand most of the reporting so he could play head in the sand. Also he could learn French, He is a lawyer so presumably he can study.

And the personality of a dead moth.

Kid Dynomite 03-10-2012 09:15 AM

Goodie. Brian Burke likes us. He enjoys people shooting him the finger.
Now I can sleep tonight knowing Montreal fans have the approval of the most overrated GM in the league.

Em Ancien 03-10-2012 09:27 AM

Looks like there's a lot of jealous people. :shakehead

I loved him in Vancouver.

PricePkPatch 03-10-2012 09:38 AM

I don't understand why so much people have a vitriolic hate toward him. Beyond his Leaf association, the only horrible thing he's done to us was given Seguin to the Bruins for Kessel.

Outside of this, I have more scorn for Briere, Chara and a boatload other people, who personally did us wrong.

Burke? Meh. He's the GM of the enemy, but there's nothing personal about the hate.

Binzler 03-10-2012 09:49 AM

Hey man, im a Habs fan but I must say, I love this guy. He's passionate about the game. I don't think he's overrated. I'm not sure if people understand what's its like the be a GM in the NHL. You can be the best and sometimes things just don't work out. It's not like he's not proven either. Look at what he did with Vancouver and what they are today. Look at what he did in Anaheim. Look at the American team in 2010 Olympics. As we say in French, "Ce gars là, stun vrai!!" And reading that bit on him loving the atmosphere of the game in Montreal just makes me respect the guy even more. It's too bad the Leafs are gonna miss the playoffs again this year but aye, misery loves company :).

Halifaxhab 03-10-2012 10:13 AM

He's loud and opinionated. Like Cherry....except Burke hasa better tailor:laugh: No wonder those two get along so well.

At least BB can appreciate a fan base for what it is, unlike Cherry who has that George W Bush mentality of "with us or against us"
