Good for Drazenovic. He's been playing very well for the Cougars from what I have seen this season. If he keeps it up, his ranking should rise by the end of the season.

MATT KASSIAN FROM THE GIANTS OVER TIM KRAUS????

Do these scouts get paid??

Hordichuk_24 11-16-2004 09:09 PM

Kassian is a beast. :yo:

Greg7 11-16-2004 11:10 PM

Kassian is huge, he skates well, he's a good fighter and he hits. Kraus is lazy, inconsistant, weak, has no physical element to his game and isn't that skilled - his points are a result of playing with Brule. Neither of them should be on there if you ask me, but until Kraus learns to play hard every night and puts on a lot of muscle, Kassian has better NHL potential. Kassian's game is transferable to the NHL, Kraus' right now is not.

I love that they put Franson on there, though.

JD Watt and especially Shaun Vey could easily be on there by midseason, both have played well with no production to show for it. Once they start picking up points people will notice them more.

Greg7 11-17-2004 05:45 PM

Skating is more than straight line speed. He's big and he has a very long stride, so he he looks slow, but he gets where he wants to go and he keeps his feet moving. For a 6'4 monster his quickness and lateral movement are good, and his acceleration isn't bad. Most importantly, his skating doesn't impede him from making hits or forechecking; he's a good enough skater so that he's not easy to beat and he can make hits.

Also, in further comparison to Kraus, Kassian is good for what he is in all three zones while Kraus is useless in the neutral and defensive zone, and only okay in the offensive zone. Kassian could be a 4th line energy player who gets in on the forecheck, hits, and fights. What can Kraus do in the NHL?

Kraus 16
Kassian 0

Kraus plays on the first line with arguably the most talented player in the WHL. As mentioned above, he's small, weak and his game won't transfer to the NHL as well as Kassian will, even though Kassian doesn't deserve to be on the list, Kraus sure as heck doesn't.

But hey, while we're comparing guys, Kevin Hayman has two points this season, why isn't he on the list? Nobody took him last year, maybe someone will this year, because after all, he's outscored Matt Kassian thus far.

Hayman is tiny.

Kraus small? 6'0 185 at 17 isn't small Kirk...

Free Torts 11-27-2004 09:13 PM

He may not be small in terms of his height/weight statistics, but he plays small. He is very weak along the boards and shows no physical edge on the ice. He will be manhandled if he ever makes the jump past the WHL.

Kirk already made a few good points. I'll add a few more here. Kassian doesn't have as many shifts as Kraus does, plus he plays a majority of his minutes on the PK. Therefore his potential of putting up any points is very limited. Plus, that isn't a part of his game. Playing physical is, and he does it very well. He is also proving to be a top heavyweight in the WHL...

Exactly, he's a goon and nothing more. He's important to the Giants though, they need size and toughness.

He isn't a 'goon'. That is a terrible term to begin with. He is a very good checker, a decent skater, a guy that is good on the PK, and an honest player that comes to the defense of teammates. He doesn't usually go out looking for a fight, he just answers the bell when the opportunity comes.

The only guy on the Giants that will actually go and look for a scrap consistantly is Grant. But even at that, since he has become the captain of the team, he hasn't done that as much lately.
