Not to my knowledge. If I were in town, I'd be game.

Reverend Mayhem 03-21-2012 12:19 PM

I'm much better at classic road hockey, but I'd be down.

Mr. Canucklehead 03-21-2012 01:16 PM

Ice-time rates vary by day and time. 8-Rinks has tons of ice for rent - the later at night you go, the cheaper it is. I used May (when I'm down next :P) for an example.

Friday, May 11th at 11:45PM - 1:00AM - $186.15

And then...

Saturday, May 12th at 12:00PM - 1:45PM - $223.15

All of these are plus taxes. So if we got about 15 people, let's say, it would be $14 a head for the late time or $17 a head for the day time.

That's a pretty sweet rate.

The question is, could we get enough people to go (and could we scrounge up some goalies?)

The person who'd like to organize could start a thread on this forum, and see how many people are up for it.

As for goalies:
http://www.hockey-community.com/

I use that site a lot to find drop-in games. I also see a lot of people using it to find goalies. Seems like goalies are easy to find if you let them play for free.

Thread made. :) I'm certainly game...don't miss an opportunity to hit the ice.

Wilch 03-21-2012 06:45 PM

Thanks Mr Canucklehead :)

I'm assuming you're volunteering ;) May's still a while away too.

Winroba 03-21-2012 06:56 PM

I can barely skate nowadays so I'd prefer some good ol' fashioned Burrows-style road hockey

KISSland 03-21-2012 07:08 PM

Ball hockey for me. I never got any good at skating and you can see it on the rink. Sigh. :(

Question to Canucklehead. Did you just google these prices up? And if so do you got a site. Would like to organize one with my school buds. Thanks.

Royal Canuck 03-21-2012 08:03 PM

This is why I hate living on Vancouver Island sometimes.

Wilch 03-22-2012 01:29 AM

Oh come on now, nobody!?

Canucker 03-22-2012 01:43 AM

If I lived there I'd be all over it.

Wilch 03-22-2012 02:17 AM

Seems like everyone is spread out here, unfortunately.

Stefan It Up 03-22-2012 02:41 AM

If it's in Vancouver/Burnaby, sure.

:( Yes, yes I am.

pavlelink 03-22-2012 05:33 AM

Why not create a HF boards ball hockey team.
At UBC there is a casual drop in ball hockey league.

I checked the prices at Burnaby 8-Rinks because it's a fairly central location, and since they have 8 ice rinks in their facility, there's pretty much always open ice. Just about every rink in the city will rent ice, however. I'm just most familiar with Ice Sports' websites.

I'd love to be a part of something like that, but I don't live in Vancouver, so a sporadic thing would be good for me.

So basically, here's who's interested so far;

Mr. Canucklehead
Wilch
Reverend Mayhem
Winroba (prefers ball hockey)
Figz14 (prefers ball hockey)
Stefan It Up
Ski Powder (Goalie)

6 skaters and a goalie is a pretty solid start. It doesn't have to be full pads and a game if people aren't up for that - stick, gloves and puck can be fun (save for the goalies that is, although we could get a foam puck if someone wants to just stand in the net)

Canadian Chris 03-22-2012 11:55 AM

Depending on the date, I come across pretty regularly. Never EVER miss a chance to get on the ice!

EDIT: Upon seeing the "dates" I'm totally game! I WANT IN!!!!

I just threw those May dates out there because that's when I happen to be in town next. But if it works for everyone, that's awesome - I'd love to get together for one of these.

Updated list of interested parties:

Mr. Canucklehead
Wilch
Reverend Mayhem
Winroba (prefers ball hockey)
Figz14 (prefers ball hockey)
Stefan It Up
Canadian Chris
Ski Powder (Goalie)

True North 03-22-2012 12:01 PM

I'm in for ice hockey or ball hockey.

Hank4Hart 03-22-2012 12:04 PM

i could show up as goalie.... preferably on saturday because i have no car access on friday and i'd need a ride from ubc with all that gear i have to bring

haven't gone onto the ice in a couple years since i play mostly road and roller now... but if you don't mind me playing like crap for half an hour or so before settling in then I am down for ice as well, doesnt matter if its roller/ball/ice since i have sufficient protection.
