Alfie Nation

Bumped.

After his game 3 shorthanded goal to tie the game - Alfie deserves this!!

And, he still has not confirmed that he will play again next year.

11 second countdown starting at 11:11 of each period followed by an ALFIE chant starting at 11:00.

Most fans will join in on the countdown at around the 6 second mark.

It was awesome to hear in the playoffs last year, and it also started some random Andy and Neil chants.

The Pageau chant to the OLE song is amazing!! Well done Sens fans!!

Let's spread the word and get this going again.

Last year was amazing thanks to all the work done by the posters on this board and their contacts!!

- an 11 second countdown starting at 11:11 - most fans will join in at around the 5 second mark

- followed by an Alfie chant at the 11:00 mark.

The countdown is key (thanks Nordiques Nation) it let's fans know the chant is about to start and that it's not just some random Alfie chant.

The NHL regular season is winding down and it's been a thrilling ride for our Ottawa Senators and in particular for the league's best Captain, Daniel Alfredsson.

Starting on April 3, when the Ottawa Senators host the Carolina Hurricanes, Sens fans should take the opportunity to show Alfie just how much he means to this team, to the organization and to the city of Ottawa.

Here is how it's going to work...

Beginning at 11:11 of the first period, and each period that follows, we are asking fans at the game to spontaneously break into a countdown from 11. Then, when the clock hits 11:00, we'll start one of those glorious "Alfie" chants that have become so popular at SBP.

Simple enough?

Let's do it Sens fans! Let's show the Captain just how much we appreciate everything he has done for the Ottawa Senators!

Thanks Sens Chirp for writing this so well!

If there is a stoppage in play just start the countdown from where we left off.

If it doesn't work very well in the first period, keep trying! People will catch on!

Let's do this for the Carolina game on April 3rd, the Boston game on April 5th, and all our playoff home games!

This could be totally lame or very cool ...

Since Alfie still hasn't confirmed his plans for next year, I think we should start an "Alfie Nation" type of salute to our captain; similar to those great Nordiques Nation fans.

We can show him again how much we appreciate everything he's done for our team and our city, and just maybe play a very small role in convincing Alfie to play for another season.

Starting at our next home game, Tuesday April 3rd vs Carolina, at the 11:10 mark of each period we should have a 10 second count down to the 11 minute mark, followed by a huge cheer then our "ALFIE" chant!

Thoughts? Lame? Cool?

This is great, thanks for all the positive feedback.

Yes Nordiques Nation already did this at SBP but it was awesome! The countdown gets the crowd ready for the cheer and chant.

I don't think it'll take too many attempts to get it going. Counting down for 11 seconds kind of preps everyone for what's about to happen. In the second period more people will be on board and the 3rd period will have even more.

Think we can do it?

Jerk Store 03-27-2012 03:58 PM

Honestly, I think its a cool idea. Thing is it's hard to get these things started on HF, although I'm the wrong person to say that :P

OmniSens 03-27-2012 03:59 PM

That sounds awesome! Hope it goes through

JonnyMacSen 03-27-2012 04:04 PM

The Nordique fans did this idea already in our building...

saskriders 03-27-2012 04:09 PM

Sounds good maybe it would get more noise in sbp too

AlfieIsOurKing 03-27-2012 04:15 PM

I'm gonna be at that game already and it sounds cool to me :)

Alpostrophe 03-27-2012 04:18 PM

Good luck getting a rise out of the Scotia Bank Placians. I applaud the idea, but suggest that pooling donations for a full page ad in the Citizen would reach more people by far. Not joking when I say I will ante up the first 50 bucks for the cause. Opinions?

Dysentery 03-27-2012 04:18 PM

"Praise Alfie" is what should be shouted out at the 11 min mark, followed by one more year chant.

benjiv1 03-27-2012 04:19 PM

I'm going too, but wouldn't a "one more year" chant be more appropriate?

topshelfie 03-27-2012 04:28 PM

Sounds like a good idea, I'd just like more noise throughout the whole game, especially this time of year.

SensPromo 03-27-2012 04:35 PM

Yeah, I think it's good, I'll post on RSU page and could also possibly post a video on my YouTube Channel if I have time

HenrySpezzaThoreau 03-27-2012 04:36 PM

I love this idea. I kinda feel like we should do the cheering at the 11:11 mark, but I also like the idea of having a 10 second countdown, so I'm torn. Anyways, as others have said, it'll be hard to get started. I think HF is a good start though. Maybe get into contact with senchirp and yost and some of the other blogs to see if they'll promote the idea. Putting an add in the citizen is also an awesome idea. Although if the idea gets enough steam on the internet wayne scanlan or someone might just write to promote it on their own.

EDIT: ^ oh yeah, forgot about RSU. They'll definitely be into this.

I was thinking about it, but that would be more appropriate for next year seeing how he has a contract for next season.

Attempting to bring life to sbp will result in people shushing you...unless you're a montreal, toronto, or quebec fan.

So sad

When was the last time you were at a Sens game, like 6 years ago?

Ushers are basically glorified cheerleaders these days. Make as much noise as you want, it's encouraged by pretty much all staff in the building.

... Unless you're talking about other fans.

HankHillC3H8 03-27-2012 05:53 PM

Great idea. I'm going to the Boston game next week and hopefully the word gets out by then. Praise Alfie.

White Goodman 03-27-2012 05:54 PM

I'll be at that game, behind the players bench! Let's do it!

I'll tweet Yost and Chirp. They usually answer and they both have HF account so if they don't answer they might see this.

EDIT: You guys tweet them too. SensChirp is @SensChirp and Travis Yost is @TravisHeHateMe

He retweeted me, and tweeted that to me.

EDIT: Travis Yost retweeted me, along with three others. A few people have told me to tweet @StuntmanStu as well. I didn't expect to get so many people retweeting me and messaging me.

EDIT: @6thSens retweeted me and replied as well. :yo:

Awesome stuff! I would help you out, but I don't have twitter. Looks like most of the people you messaged are down with the idea. Hopefully Ian Mendes answers, cause that would be huge if he started promoting the idea during broadcasts.

This. And we should chant it after Alfie scores. Knowing Ottawa fans it will be hard enough to get any kindof organized chant going. What if we are losing 2-0 after 11 minutes?

I would love to hear a "1 more year" chant. I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

Ironman 03-27-2012 07:34 PM

I'm going to be at the Carolina game next week. I'm totally into this and would love to help get the chant going. I don't know my box number yet, but keep us posted on the time and chant and I will get the people in our box to help.

11 minute mark of each period, but count down ten seconds before. OP has all the details.

Ed Wood 03-27-2012 07:48 PM

I'm in. I have to confess that I was hoping Alfie would retire after this season. Too many players hang on too long. I didn't think his back would ever permit him to return to anything like prime Alfie form. I was wrong. He's got lots left.

6 years? Try the last two months buddy. When Chicago played at SBP. I got dirty looks from a few people in front of me for trying to start a go sens go chant. I can only remember 2 times (out of the 6 times I've been to SBP) that I wasn't told to be quiet.
