Ansar Khan: Red Wings' Johan Franzen will return on Wednesday; Jonathan Ericsson remains a possibility
Quote:

DETROIT – Detroit Red Wings' forward Johan Franzen will return to the lineup Wednesday in Columbus (7:30 p.m., NBC Sports Network), after missing four games with back spasms.

“It's good to have him back. Obviously he's a real good player for us,'' coach Mike Babcock said. “This gives him six games to get his game in gear going into the playoffs.

“I think it's real important, as you've seen with Pavel (Datsyuk) and Nick (Lidstrom), when you miss time, it doesn't matter how good a player you are, it doesn't come back right away, so it's important he gets in and gets playing.''

Said Franzen: “You usually get a little slower when you don't skate. It feels good to get some games, the last games of the season. Hopefully coming into the playoffs fresh and able to skate well."

Defenseman Jonathan Ericsson said his status for Wednesday will be determined after the morning skate. He has been out since Feb. 25 with a chip fracture in his left wrist.

“It felt good to do some more stuff out there,'' Ericsson said. “I feel really close. Hopefully I can play tomorrow, but I don't want to say yes for sure yet.''

I'm posting the GDT from work, since my internet at home isn't working. The standings are pretty much the same and I can't post a youtube clip from here, so I delegate that task to whoever wants to do it.

Stats, team information, Khan's article and spotlight players are updated.

Go Wings go!

Filppula 03-28-2012 06:10 AM

I bet Mursak will sit.

Nope. Looks like Gustav will sit.

mindfly 03-28-2012 07:24 AM

It would be a joke to sit Nyquist...

ARCTICCAT24 03-28-2012 07:58 AM

Hopefully Abdelkader and Dorsette better fight tonight. Game was getting pretty rough at the end on Monday.

WingedWheel1987 03-28-2012 08:41 AM

Another guaranteed win coming right up.

Its possible, but Holland told reporters that Nyquist would be with the Wings until at least Thursday as the Griffins don't play until Friday

Great news concerning Ericsson! :handclap:

I'm expecting a win tonight, something like 4-1, 5-1, 5-2. I don't think it'll be as easy to win as it was at the Joe. 100% effort will guarantee a win, though. Go Wings!

needzmoarcleary 03-28-2012 11:26 AM

6-4 Homer gets the gwg for a hat trick so we all can enjoy some free curly fries tomorrow:sarcasm:

FlashyG 03-28-2012 11:26 AM

Nyquist is playing tonight on a line with Emmerton and Holmstrom...looks like Mursak is out.

Ericsson returns, Kindl is out.

Howard out tonight and also against Nashville.

redwings85 03-28-2012 11:37 AM

this SHOULD be another victory... will it be another slaughter? who knows...

I really want Homer for a Hattrick though ^^

Animus 03-28-2012 11:46 AM

Update from Ansar Khan today.

If Howard couldn't play tonight then he wouldn't on Friday either (so expect Conklin in against Nashville on Friday as well). Ericsson will be starting tonight, Kindl will sit. Mursak is sitting tonight with Nyquist playing with Emmerton and Holmstrom.

Things have gotten slightly interesting on the CBJ goalie front. Apparently, Mason took a shot off his mask this morning (thank you Colton Gilles).

So, the CBJ have signed a U of M goalie, Shawn Hunwick. He will be backing up York tonight.

See:

for details.

Dynheart 03-28-2012 12:13 PM

So that gives Howard 4 games to get his groove back, if he even finds it? I'll be honest. When he came back after his second injury, he wasn't exactly playing like the Howard we knew, and that was for about three games.

It could have been because he was rushed back and was still stiff/sore/not healed in the first place (his lateral movement was NOT his norm he was slow moving).

I hope he's 100% and comes in like nothing ever happened...I think 4 games wont be enough to find his game. He's played like what? 10 games total since he broke his finger way back (was that in Janurary?) when. He's colder than a dead fish comming in at this point in the season? Might as well not have played any games at all at this point. We know they practice, and we know practice is not the same. Gotta wonder where his mental game is now...Let's hope Ozzie trained him right in that Dept.

Prove me wrong Jimmy.

At 5'7 he's only slightly bigger than Darren Pang, combined with the Jackets remaining defence it could get really ugly should York not play well.

Judging by how he did in relief of Mason on Monday though, I doubt the Wings will see any of Hunwick.

Gus needs to go out and continue to impress, though. If he does, and someone stumbles, I have to think he'll be first in line to move back up.

Good to see Nyquist stay in the lineup.

Hopefully he keeps rolling!

With half their starting D on the shelf, now losing Mason, and with the season being such a bad one, I feel a bit bad for the Jackets and their fans. I hope they right their ship a bit this offseason.

lol why did NBC choose to broadcast this game?

All you Wings fans need not worry. York is our ECHL goalie. Not even good enough for our AHL affiliate.

Of course, Mason has played no better than an ECHL goalie, so what is the difference.

Anyone coming down for the game tonight will be driving home happy.

For us Jackets fans? No one really gives a **** anymore about this season.

I was wondering the same thing. Probably some contractual thing with the Blue Jackets.

They were expected to be pretty good before the season started with Wisniewski, Carter and Prospal all signing there. We all know that didn't pan out as planned. :D

This is just so awesome, and I couldn't be happier for Hunwick. He is by far my favorite hobbit hockey player of all time, and I don't even like goalies in general. He walked on at UM 5 years ago, even after Red Berenson told him, 'you should probably go elsewhere, since you will never play here.' And five years later, Shawn Hunwick is the best goalie in UM history. Kid is a tireless worker and has that x-factor, which is why he finds himself in the NHL at 4'7" or whatever he is. And, he's a pretty classy guy. Can't wait to see him sitting on the bench, peaking his head over the boards.
