Who would you rather face, Washington or Buffalo?

Personally, I'm afraid of the Craps. Granted they aren't good in their own end at all, but when you have Ovechkin (and others like Backstrom, Semin, Green, Wideman, etc), you can break open any game. I'm also concerned that the Rangers are so young that those 'Nam frashbacks of being defeated by the Craps will haunt them.

With Buffalo, I see them as the Rangers were in the past: simply not enough fire-power to win a 7 game series.

I know they say that defense wins in the playoffs, but when you are completely lacking offensively, you can't win either. I don't see BS having the offense to beat us 4 times, whereas I can see the Craps clamping down defensively enough to make this a very tough series for us.

Washington, mostly for selfish reasons. When all is said and done though, I wouldn't be surprised if we're matched up against Ottawa.

Machinehead 03-30-2012 07:27 PM

Washington AINEC. I didn't forget what they've done.

The Senators

Buffalo...better balanced and more of a team

if the Rangers faced the Caps, it would be all about Ovechkin again :help::shakehead its a team sport....

Ice Hockey 03-30-2012 08:29 PM

it's a close call but i'd rather play the caps, even in light of our past... experiences playing them in the post season. it'd be good to send them to the golf course.

Stanley Foobrick 03-30-2012 08:35 PM

Ask yourself who can get hot and singlehandedly win a series by himself, Ryan Miller or Thomas Vokoun?

Rather face Caps any day.

Six of one, a half dozen of the other; pick your poison. Personally, I think we can handle the Caps this time around because of all the defensive issues they've had this year. With the Sabres, they have a proven goalie who's a winner and is playing as the equal to Hank which is exactly what he was before this season. Their offense has been fine especially since Roy and Ennis got healthy and Foligno was brought up. Stafford has been on fire since being placed with Ennis and Foligno and Pomminville and Vanek are always dangerous.
Their offense is no worse than ours, sorry to say.

Fataldogg 03-30-2012 10:21 PM

IDK, it's a tough call. Both Miller and Ovechkin can take over a series.

IDK how I would feel facing a surging Ovechkin (who has cooled off a little bit) or a hot Ryan Miller in net. If we face the Capitals, I'd love to get some retribution for our past two meetings. I'm still 50/50 on our chances against them. I don't think we've ever done particularly well at the Verizon Center in the post season.

I want revenge on the Capitals.

trilobyte 03-30-2012 10:29 PM

Without a doubt, it would be the Capitals.
The last playoff rounds against the Caps were a failure on a few fronts.
Focus was not so good, too many mistakes, relaxing and letting the Caps in.
Rangers offense is much improved this year, and to be honest, so is the defence.

The Capitals advanced against the Rangers last year because the Rangers gave it to them by making so many mistakes.
I think they would beat the Capitals in 6 games.

The Sabres have just about as much firepower as the Rangers. The Rangers top-line is slightly more dynamic and dominates at a higher level when they're hot. Other than that, they're similar, and quite honestly the way some of their young guys are playing, they have a much better secondary scoring depth overall. The good news is a lot of them are young and have very little, or zero playoff experience.

Net Front Presence 03-30-2012 10:48 PM

I'd rather play Buffalo.

Victory* 03-30-2012 11:21 PM

Washington. I want revenge.

GWOW 03-30-2012 11:22 PM

Washington, because I hate Buffalo, Miller can steal 4 games and Lindy Ruff traps against us.

No thanks. Washington will be a better series to watch from a fan's standpoint.

17futurecap 03-30-2012 11:34 PM

Washington still has a good chance to win the division.

Caps at 86 vs Montreal, at Tampa, vs Florida, vs Rangers

Panthers at 90 at Detroit, vs Winnipeg, vs Washington, vs Carolina

Caps got 36 ROW'S while the Panthers only have 31 so the Caps have the breaker locked up.

Would not be stunned to see the Caps go 4-0 and the Panthers go 2-2.

KingWantsCup 03-31-2012 12:00 AM

Washington despite our history against them. The are so bad. It would be over in 5. Buffalo could give us a much tougher time, but I don't see that going beyond 6 games. Not trying to sound overconfident, but they're scratching to make it and we're competing for the presidents trophy sooo...

darko 03-31-2012 12:27 AM

Capitals. Dont want to face Miller.

IAMREALITY 03-31-2012 12:27 AM

I've been torn by this question lately. Miller's ability to get hot and flat out steal games scares me a little. But then, we have Hank. Then I think about revenge on the Caps for last year. We're a different team this year. We could send them packing. It would feel good. But then I worry about the psychological aspect of it all, last year still fresh. Would we try too hard? Would we let what happened last year infect our minds too much that it handcuffed us? I'd love to think not. We've been more mentally tough this year than any I can remember. But playoffs are a funny thing. So Washington, in it's own way, kinda scares me too.

But that's just if I'm forcing myself to be scared. Because when I decide to say **** fear, it occurs to me that I believe in our team firmly enough that we could beat whoever we face in a 7 game series; period.

But then there's also the last thought that enters my mind... Which is Washington? Buffalo? Good chance it's irrelevant. Way I see it, we're playin Florida...

Kane One 03-31-2012 12:34 AM

While you guys are talking about only Washington and Buffalo, should we also be talking about Florida? I would think the best scenario would be having Washington keep winning, Buffalo keep losing, and have Florida win just enough so we could face them in the first round.

I'm not going to read the whole thread to see if anyone thought of that yet, so shouldn't this be the best scenario?

ltsthinaz 03-31-2012 01:43 AM

Did anyone note that Erhoff is out for the season? Makes Buffalo worse. Also, Panthers can also fall to 8th, they're 4 points ahead ofthe Caps with 4 to play each. Also, Ottawa has a very tough schedule. Despite doing poorly against them, I actually think we'd beat them easily in the playoffs.

I'd love to play Florida. Panthers, Sens, Sabres, and Caps are who I want in that order.

What's Backstrom's status?

His return is imminent and could come as soon as tomorrow.
