The Stars have signed Matej Stransky.

Great for him. You guys have an underrated prospect here!

The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has signed forward Matej (Mah-tay) Stransky to a three-year entry-level contract. Stransky, 18, was Dallas' sixth-round selection (No. 165 overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

"We are excited to announce the signing of Matej," Stars General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk said. "His development with Saskatoon over the last two seasons is an encouraging sign of a player who we think has a successful future with the Stars organization."

Made this its own thread, hope that's OK.

Nieuwendyk:

Congrats to Stransky, very excited about his development. My favorite pick of last year's draft.

Here's the official site link.

So that's 4 new ELCs in a short period of time. Maybe why they haven't signed any undrafted free agents this year yet.

Meh, already posted in the other thread. You can just delete that post over there, if you don't mind.

Nice to see him get signed, but I don't think he'll go anywhere but the AHL.

How can you possibly say that?

How many times have you seen him play, exactly?

The kid had a fantastic year as an 18 year old, fresh off his draft year. He went from 26 points to 39 goals and 81 points. I could see him being around 95+ next year, with the right centreman.

The team doesn't sign a kid like this, a year earlier than they need to, if they don't feel like he might take that next step and become an NHLer down the road.

He'll be going back to the WHL and the ELC will slide.

Meant this season, if he went pro. Then I realized the stupidity in my statement.

What piqued said will happen, though.

Been there, done that.

Sadly, I don't think the two are destined to reunite.

SonicSpeedDash 04-02-2012 08:32 PM

Hmm interesting.

MetalGodAOD 04-02-2012 08:35 PM

I'm excited to watch his development. Our Czech scouts have been doing very well lately.

Frozen Failure 04-02-2012 09:30 PM

Oh man, and here I thought he was coming to the bigs. This is definitely good news! BigG! Update the contract thread!

Kudos should go to the WHL scouts. I know you're also referring to Vincour but both those players were picked and scouted out of the WHL rather than Europe.

Oh, good to know.

SonicSpeedDash 04-02-2012 10:28 PM

After he was drafted his 2nd season in the WHL he had 39 goals and 82 points in 70 games. Damn that's pretty good and scouts are comparing him to Jaromir Jagr because of his ability to protect the puck and use his size to his advantage in making plays from the boards.

Also he is 6'3 and weights 205 pounds. Def making big D big again. Nice to see we are getting some actual good quality picks these past few years. Hoping to see them do good and possibly make it up soon.

Aye, he pattern his game after Jagr.

RS, how much has his skating improved this season?

Somewhat. Once he gets going he's perfectly fine. Still could use much more explosiveness. Also still needs to work on his co-ordination and overall strength on his skates.

He's very odd to watch. He protects the puck so well along the cycle, often taking hard hits multiple times without losing possession. With that being said, he also seems to fall down and lose the puck from time to time when he's barely touched.

He grew leaps and bounds this season in that area of his game, but it's still a weakness.

Awesome to hear.

Does he win a lot of puck battles, or is he just strong with the puck?

Hopefully he keeps improving next season, as well.

He's not overly impressive in puck battles, but he's definitely strong on his stick. It's an area he can work on for sure. Once he gets it though, he's basically impossible to knock off of it.

BigG44 04-09-2012 08:31 AM

If Stransky's birthday was about 9 to 10 weeks later, he would have been a 2012 draft pick.

Where do you think he would have gone in this draft? I think the production and improvements in some but not all areas of his weaknesses jumps him to the 3rd round.
