I think Max Domi, or Connor Brown have a chance as well. Maybe I'm wrong though.

If London is still in the playoffs Max Domi won't be available.

Any chance Kujawinski, Garlent, Harper, or Dickinson are in consideration?

Definitely in consideration as they are out of the playoffs. 3 out of the above mentioned already have a history playing in U16 and U17 which gives them a higher chance over other player but I personally have Ritchie over all those guys.

Forgot Ritchie... I would certainly put him into late consideration too. Dickinson has been very hot since Jan 1, and into playoffs - that's why he came to mind.

The entire roster is listed below.
(source)

Goaltenders (3):
Spencer Martin (Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors)
Matt Murray (Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds)
Brandon Whitney (Victoriaville Tigres)

Defencemen (6):
Mathew Dumba (Red Deer Rebels)
Josh Morrissey (Prince Albert Raiders)
Darnell Nurse (Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds)
Adam Pelech (Erie Otters)
Damon Severson (Kelowna Rockets)
Warren Steele (Kingston Frontenacs)

Forwards (11):
Troy Bourke (Prince George Cougars)
William Carrier (Cape Breton Screaming Eagles)
Brendan Gaunce (Belleville Bulls)
Scott Kosmachuk (Guelph Storm)
Scott Laughton (Oshawa Generals)
Anthony Mantha (Val d’Or Foreurs)
Sam Reinhart (Kootenay Ice)
Kerby Rychel (Windsor Spitfires)
Gemel Smith (Owen Sound Attack)
Branden Troock (Seattle Thunderbirds)
Mike Winther (Prince Albert Raiders)
-----------------------------------------------------------------

what I don't get is why Darnell Nurse was chosen over a few prospects that's got alot better stats... I can't speak for other teams because I don't know them that much, but I can tell you Chris Bigras would belong there long before Nurse does. Compare their stats. Also Bigras played less games this season than Nurse, and he still kicked his butt. Then Bigras's performance in the playoff only augmented. They got canned by Kitchener with many goals against but Bigras managed 5 points in 5 games (2 goals - 3 assists) and a plus 5. In the U-17 he did not lose one single battle, and did not make one single error. The coach did though in overtimme sitting him when they got scored on and eliminated. oh well... Canada's lost.

Is this the entire roster? Why do they take only 11 forwards?

FrontenacSens 04-05-2012 01:04 PM

They're going to add 3 more players later. Some players they want are in the playoffs(Monahan, MacKinnon, etc).

Why any 95's to begin with...what about Koekkoek from Peterborough as an example. Nurse was not een a factor with the U17.

bidzey 04-05-2012 01:17 PM

maybe there's influences we don't know about .. are you sure you wanted to quote "majorleaguebrian88", your comment seems to align in response to mine rather than "majorleaguebrian88

Isn't he injured?

bidzey 04-05-2012 01:30 PM

Wasn't Nurse a tournament Allstar at the U17??

Isn't the Ivan Helinka only eligible to those players born in 1995?

The summer tournament we're able to gather our best 23 players to form the team whereas this tournament will include only the best available players not in the CHL playoffs. In August there is also a selection camp prior to all the decisions being made so all the players in question are there. But the Ivan Hlinka tournament is a summer tournament and now after a full season all the players in this tournament are more Hockey prepared I guess, meaning that it will show in the execution and play on the ice, especially with the euro's who are together for longer considering their seasons end earlier. Nonetheless, if we were to send our best team it wouldn't even be close and it's actually better this way so the HC staff can see which other players in the pool can be considered for future World Juniors.

Yah. The one coming up in August 2012 is 1995's or later. So Aaron Ekblad being a 1996 will be there as an underager and should be there next season as well i'm guessing.

cool, I get it, the one in august is just a bit more real, if we can put it like that...

Libbs 04-05-2012 01:53 PM

Also the U18 is a IIHF event where the Hlinka is not.

Both are real, but this tournament in April more teams compete for the Gold, whereas in August, when we send our best, chances are slim for other countries.

Exactly, meaning if you play in this tourney with another country and have dual citizenship, you can still play for your other country in an IIHF sanctioned event. Example being, Jamie Oleksiak this year at the World Juniors. And potentially Galchenyuk who suited up for the US at the Ivan Hlinka but could still play for Russia at the World Juniors.

bidzey 04-05-2012 02:03 PM

good, I'm glad I asked the question

Torts 04-05-2012 04:28 PM

how much action do you guys think Martin will get in goal?

as the younger guy i cant see that much but it should be good exposure for him going into his NHL draft year next season

Likely not much but Spencer Martin was excellent for Team Ontario at the U17

Nurse vs Bigras - simply put, stats don't tell the whole story. Teams need some dmen to shutdown their opponents and Nurse adds some size

I'd expect the remaining players to be added will come from the next round of eliminations. Kujawinski and Garlent were both very good at the U17 though
