Lightning's Stamkos says left shoulder injury might be enough to keep him out of worlds. Make decision in next few days.

Stamkos said injury does not require surgery just time to heal.

Stamkos, who has not missed a game for an injury, said shoulder almost kept him out of March 10 home game vs Hurricanes.

Vasilevskiy 04-09-2012 11:04 AM

awesome to see Thompson selected!

LightningStrikes 04-09-2012 11:24 AM

That injury explains Stammer's "drought" in mid-March.

No Bugsy for the US?

That's all I could find. Most of the article is about Hedman going and Marty not.

Maelmoor 04-09-2012 12:55 PM

Was hoping to see Marty, Stamkos or Bugsy playing but better for Tampa that they get some rest. At least Hedman and Nasty Nate will play :handclap:

Stamkos will skip the WC:
Quote:

Tampa Bay Lightning star Steven Stamkos had a "clean" MRI on his injured left shoulder, the team said, but still will skip this year's world championships. (...)

Despite the injury with which Stamkos played for almost a month, he became part of NHL history when he became just the 20th player to reach 60 goals in a season and only the second to do it in the past 15 seasons. His 97 points also are a career high.

Stamkos said he takes "a lot of pride" in the fact he has not missed a game due to injury. "That's why you work hard in the summer and take care of your body the best you can during the season," he said. "It's playing through stuff, sometimes, as well." (...)

Now imagine "what if". Long summer to recover. 70 next year. :sarcasm:

I bet Purcell gets the call for Canada.

Guy is an assistant coach.
Ruff turned down the head coach job so he may get a promotion.

ThunderAlleyNomad 04-11-2012 11:28 AM

J.T. Brown gets the call. Good experience for him.

Awesome. That's good that he can get in some more games. The more he plays against and with other professionals the better.

Maybe he can find a S&C and goalie coach while he's there.

Also, I don't see Purcell getting the Canada call, unless SFY threatens to rent a barn for Lowe.

Purcell's already got the call. Don't know what the delay in announcing it is.

Lowe needs to confirm that any and all barn reservations have been canceled.

S&C coach? Gary Roberts is a beast, look what he did for Stammer, we do need a goalie coach in the worst way though.

Yeah, too bad Roberts works for the Stars during the season and doesn't spend his summers training all of our guys.

There's also a difference between off-season training and on-season training. I wouldn't think Roberts would be vastly superior in the off-season compared to the conditioning needs during the season, but you never know.

Maybe we can get Mike Marson? :sarcasm:
Quote:

After his hockey playing career ended in 1980 he studied Martial arts. Marson became a 5th degree black belt in the Japanese style of Shotokan, attaining the status of Master-Shihan. Marson has developed an off-ice martial arts training program for hockey players designed to improve timing, focus and confidence. Current NHL player Rick Nash is a student of the program.
