i wouldn't throw him away for a mid round draft pick but if somethig like 2 seconds or a first was offered, i don't know how the flyers could turn it away. He doesn't have a future here.
His workload also significantly dropped, some guys need games, not practice to stay sharp. The defense last year was also far better than this year.
I wouldn't characterize this season as a sophomore slump...he needs to still polish his game but that comes with actually playing more. I never felt he was able to gain momentum and that's b/c they had to suck it up and get Bryz to find his game. Bob's body of work to pass objective judgement was incomplete IMO...
His puckhandling got significantly better, so he's working on his game at least
well apparently sitting him 10 games then throwing him in, doesn't do any good.
i can't tell he would do better if he was as #1 but he didn't do well when he got back in |
It took Carey Price 4 seasons to become solid. Carey Price, 4 seasons.
I am not worried about him. Bob will be a starting goalie in this league in time, he just needs time.
As long as there's a bonus cushion for the next season, I have no problem having Bobrovsky as our backup. There might be a better option out there, perhaps, but there are also a lot worse. If we can get the defense we've had towards the end of this season as the norm for next year, I think his numbers will improve.
If someone offers a pick or some decent prospects, get on it. He's not going be a starter here as long as Bryz is here, and Bryz ain't goin nowhere. If he isn't dealt, his stats are fine for backup. You'd like to see better starts, but as a backup, you are never (rarely) going to get starter stats. That is why they are backups. $1.75 million is a lot of money for a backup. You can get a backup on about the same current level (meaning level now, not in a few years) for $1 million. Having potential in a backup goalie isn't worth much other than trade bait when you have $5 million a year for nine years.
I'm concerned about the way he slowly gets worse as the season gets on. Happened last year, happened this year.

Another thing I would be cool with is extending his contract, but I don't see him wanting to stay here. I think he has a shot to be a starter elsewhere so I doubt he would interested backing up Bryz for a few more years. That's why I really think they need to get something for him. Although if he is offer-sheeted I suppose they could get something decent for him next year if he gets a couple million. I could see him getting $2.5-$3, not sure what the compensation would be for that. 3rd rounder?

I dont think a late first is out of the question value wise. Yea he struggled at times but so did our other goalie. His potenial and amount of games played already is pretty good for a 23 yr old goalie
If there is one player on our team who has a chance to be traded before or on draft day its Bob. Him and Carle's rights |
i like Bob both as a person and as a Flyers goalie..
but at this point the best thing for both sides is to trade bob to a team that can/will make better use of him. Flyers are hyper commited to Bryz, so what we really need is a solid backup that understands his role. i personaly feel bob is wasted as a backup. least a backup who's only going to play infrequently (barring injury to the starter) i'd be super happy to see Leights come back in the backup role behind Bryz, but i doubt it happens. im sure there are plenty of Teams willing to swap some parts for Bob. |

Way to go for Bob. Very unlikely he will still wear the O&B when he finally hits his peak if he ever becomes a fulltime starting goaltender in this league. |

Yea he had a bad season, but at 23 yrs old he has 42 wins, 23 losses (10 OT) with a 2.73 gaa and a .909 sv%. If a team thinks he has a future, a first is not out of the question at all. |
