we want cup 04-09-2012 09:56 PM

When I got home this evening I went to nhl.com to check the scores for tonights games. :(

I'm pumped for the playoffs, but I hate the thought that the offseason is approaching quickly. Hopefully we have some fun before it arrives.

What could be more important than florida panthers playoff games? :sarcasm:

I'm guessing the heat play wednesday/thursday?

Bob Richards 04-09-2012 10:09 PM

My weekends are now ruined. Must watch games.

I thought they play in different arenas. Cats don't play in Miami.

No one cares about that series. The league is forcing us to watch it, by not giving us any other games that day.

So whats everyones upsets for the playoffs? I have the Caps beating the Bruins and Yotes beating the Hawks.

FromTheSide 04-09-2012 10:11 PM

I just looked it up and it looks like they have nothing going on in the Bankatlantic center wednesday or thursday...So that seems strange.

Oh well :dunno:

I've got the Caps too, as well as the Panthers, Flyers, and one of SJ or LA

White Plains Batman 04-09-2012 10:19 PM

I think the Caps can take the Bruins. They looked genuinely pissed off in that game against the Rangers. If Holtby continues this, and if guys like Ward, Johansen, and Perrault knock in a few here and there, they can beat the Bruins.

All of these series are very interesting and any team could win any series.

Van-LA; Quick could very well outplay Luongo.
SJ-STL: I expect the Blues to win but maybe the Sharks have been half-##$ing it all season and will come out full cylinders for the playoffs.

The big question of course; which 3rd liner wins the annual John Druce award? Last year it was Bergenheim. My darkhorse this year is Marcus Kruger on Chicago.

The Panthers over the Devils? How many games?

Clowes Line 04-09-2012 10:30 PM

Flyers over the princesses in 6

bobbop 04-10-2012 12:19 AM

This one even caught me by surprise -- best NHL record since 2/1? The Phoenix Coyotes.

6. The style they play seems like something that would trouble the Devils

Bettman defends his "golden child"

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=627054

Bettman said Tortorella's comments come with the territory of Crosby being one of the game's biggest stars.

"The level of passion, emotion and gamesmanship can never be overestimated," Bettman said. "I think people who follow the game closely understand it's just noise. My guess is, Sidney Crosby is still the most popular player and has legions of fans in all ages in multiple countries. The fact that somebody might take a potshot, I guess, is the price of greatness."

:shakehead

GAGLine 04-10-2012 08:30 AM

If it's just noise, then why take it so seriously? Why fine Torts 20k?

I usually defend Bettman, but there's no secret that Crosby is the face of the NHL and they will do whatever they can to protect his image.

Krampus 04-10-2012 08:35 AM

Most popular player? Most hated player if anything.

If I had to pick a popular, it would be Stammer or Datsyuk

MorrisWanchuk 04-10-2012 08:43 AM

Didn't know where to post this so will do here.

At the game on Sat, there was a loud section of Caps fans all sitting together. They made tons of noise all game. As all the Caps players left the ice at the end of the game I was watching them all leave. Only one player looked up to this section and acknowledged their support by giving them a wave and stick salute............ Ovi8. Not a big deal, but I thought it showed good character by the guy.

Would love Caps > Bruins. Would love to face the Caps in the ECF over Boston.

If they won over Boston, we'd face them in the 2nd round.

Ah, yes. You're right. Re-seeding.

It's not really that. As the first seed, we would always play the lowest seed possible. So there's a great possibility of a Rangers/Devils second round, as I expect Boston to beat the Caps. They should be able to score on Holtby, and their defense is miles better.

New York RKY 04-10-2012 09:55 AM

So many people are picking PIT to win the cup.

They don't realize PIT has the hardest road to get to the cup. Assuming every team wind that's supposed to PIT would have to go through Philly, Boston, and the Rangers just to get to the finals. That's one hell of a road.
