Pick Up Street Hockey (2012 playoffs edition)

With the playoffs right around the corner, I thought this would be a good time to extend the invitation to our Thursday night pick up games.

We've had a pretty solid group going for the last couple of years (since the cup run in 2010), so come on out if you feel so inclined. The more the merrier.

We play at Rizzo Rink at Front and Washington in South Philly (the outdoor rink right under 95).

If you're interested and want weekly details about games and times, we have a mailing list at http://www.gmailinglist.com/philadelphiastreethockey/

Who wants to play some hockey?

JonnyGaloshes 04-11-2012 07:29 AM

I forgot to add, we're playing tomorrow (Thursday 4/12) at 7pm.

Havent been there in years but isnt there an indoor and outdoor rink there? which do you play on?

Keaver 04-11-2012 10:52 AM

I usually play every Monday and Wednesday but maybe I'll get my friend to come with me some Thursday to play.

We usually play in the Northeast though at Fox Chase rec they have 2 rinks and goalies usually come through which is nice. There also another nice outdoor rink called War Memorial in Willow Grove

Do you play with skates?

JonnyGaloshes 04-11-2012 01:51 PM

We play at the outdoor rink (it's free, while the indoor one costs money to use), and yes we play with skates.

Keaver - do it, man. You guys will love it, I promise. If nothing else we should set up a game between our two groups.

Strange question for all you goalies out there...

We have a team playing in the Flyers Faithful tournament this weekend (May 5th and 6th). Our goalie, last minute, told us he might have to work.

Is anyone interested in playing goal for us? Our team is all paid for, we would just need you to show up and play. I could even give you a ride if needed.

The first game is Saturday at 9am. The rest depends on whether we win or lose.

Let me know. PM me or reply.

Sucks you dont need a skater or I could help. I've played goalie before in mess around games but I wouldn't want to offer and handicap you lol

I live like 5 minutes from Rizzo.

My team usually plays there or at 2nd and Jackson tuesday nights or on weekends every now and then. We're currently in the playoffs for our league right now, but we should get a big game together sometime.

I'm 36, but I use to play at Rizzo back in the early 90's. Back then most guys still played without skates. I bought a pair of skates like 15 years ago but haven't worn them in forever. I was never a great skater though. We also played at the outdoor rink in Belmont. Oh what memories

Subject title says "street hockey"... I never put "street hockey" and "skates" in the same sentence. Tie up the sneakers and run... I must be old.

Is Woodhaven still around? I played in several Can/Am ball hockey tournaments there in the early 90's.

Good luck. You're gonna need it. One of the teams has TJ Brennan in it.

We have a team too. We are called the Dangleberries. What's yours?

We were the Shingles. We got worked by the fire company team that lost to Brennan in the finals. Still had a lot of fun though.

Any interest in setting up some games between our two "teams"?

Woodhaven has been long gone. The owners ended up buying a tennis facility in Feasterville, PA making it a roller rink and soon after added another two, it's called the Sportsplex, It's a great facility. You won't find any street/dek hockey leagues there, an occasional tournament though. It's mainly used for roller hockey.

The dek hockey leagues in the northeast area are out of Northeast Racquet Ball Club (Krewstown) and Fox Chase playground in the northeast.
