No Season ending Presser

Quote:

Ted Black on WGR just said no season-ending presser. "The epitaph for this season has been written and spoken enough over the last week."
Of course not. We had a fantastic season.

No questions need to be asked because this is HOCKEY HEAVEN where EVERYTHING is PERFECT.

Cowards.

WhoIsJimBob 04-12-2012 07:22 AM

If Black were a coward, would he be on WGR this morning?

Zip15 04-12-2012 07:28 AM

So few teams have these pressers to discuss the season, yet the Sabres get consistently flogged each time they don't have one.

Also, you know the reason, at least in part, is that they're not going to sit there while the TBN writers pander to their base with hostile questions.

gallagt01 04-12-2012 07:28 AM

I don't agree with that at all. The Buffalo media and the Pegula-run Sabres have certainly had a rocky relationship, so I'm not surprised.

Still, I'd like to hear from Regier and Ruff, in addition to Pegula and Black.

Its not hard to go on a radio show that won't ask you any difficult questions.

Fixed. Their relationship with WGR is fine. Their relationship with TBN is strained, and I think I'm putting it mildly.

They've had a rocky relationship because Pegula and Black expect nothing but positive things from the fans and media. Hate to say it but missing the playoffs and spending most of the season between 10-15th in the conference isn't going to stir any positive feedback.

Since when have they not had one?

Had no problems having 1 last year.

They usually open it up to callers that will ask tougher questions.

TBN doesn't need a presser. Their guys will write their "Fire Regier and/or Ruff" stuff regardless of what Pegula and Black would say at a presser.

Plus, we all know what they would say:

- It is disappointing to miss the playoffs
- We are on the path to winning the Cup
- We like where we are today better than where we were when we took over the team
- The team was good when it was healthy
- We expect to make more upgrades to the roster this offseason
- We are committed to winning above all else. Just look at the payroll this past season.

Blah, blah, blah.

Think its easy to get through?

Please. You have to sit on hold for 45 minutes just to have a chance.

Or maybe it's because Bucky Gleason essentially called Pegula a bad leader because he didn't talk to the media throughout the Penn State scandal? Maybe it's because Gleason and Harrington have publicly berated the organization all season long?

It has nothing to do with expecting nothing but positive vibes from the fans and media. Nobody takes over a sports organization with that mindset.

That's because there is a long line to ***** and moan!

Eh, no biggie.

Just makes them look awful that they will have one when times are good.

Times tough and they stick to a radio call in show.

HiddenInLight 04-12-2012 07:56 AM

If they were to have one then they would have to risk catching the stupid from Sullivan and Gleason.

The majority of calls are people thanking him; pre-screened I'm sure. Who knows, either way guess let's see what happens moving forward.

gallagt01 04-12-2012 07:59 AM

I really just want one to hear Ruff's honest assessment of some of his players' play. Notably, Ennis, Hodgson, Vanek, Pominville, Myers and Ehrhoff.

thefifagod 04-12-2012 08:01 AM

White and Harrington are fighting about this over twitter, Harrington instigating it as always. For what it's worth, White said that every call is unscreened.

Given the current state of the relationship between TBN and the organization, I'd be shocked if this ownership holds one again. They're not going to give Sully, Gleason and Harrington the forum to air their grievances and pander. They're going to write what they're going to write regardless of what's said at a presser. What good would come from this? Catharsis? Some romanticized idea of facing the music.

I could not care less about this decision. If anything, I am tired of the talk and empty clichés--and that's all we'd be getting. I want actions not words.

Oh, that made me open my twitter app...

The media is going to be at each others throats by the end of the off-season; if they aren't by now.

I feel bad for Vogl. He's the only true journalist employed by TBN that covers the Sabres. That he's the beat writer, and is being denied the, say "openness" of a presser, is unfair given the quality writing he's published this year.

SackTastic 04-12-2012 08:06 AM

Last time I knew, the press was allowed to ask questions outside of designated press conferences.

And let's be honest, when TBN cries about everything the Sabres organization does, good or bad, should you expect the Sabres to go out of their way to accommodate them?

The job of the media is to get answers. It's not the job of the Sabres to make those answers easy and prepackaged.

Skelley 04-12-2012 08:10 AM

I'm not really concerned by the decision, I'll let the offseason moves speak for where the team is heading... I am thoroughly enjoying the reaction on twitter from the Buffalo News boys tho haha

Last year when they got bounced in the first round was good times?

People were still calling for the heads of Regier and Ruff because they hadn't won a playoff series since B&D left town.......

:shakehead
