Arffy gets 25 games. At least there will always be that.

SharksFan1 04-21-2012 02:13 PM

Did anyone see that video of Legwand covering the puck in the crease? Hilarious!

I really don't understand how there is this much controversey over suspensions and some really bad calls, and then a week later, Shanahan just throws down the hammer with a 25 game suspension for Torres. Yeah I know the guy is a punk, repeat offender, and all that jazz, but I keep going back to the whole weber thing. What if Weber did that? For slamming a guy's head into the boards it's a $2,500 fine. I doubt if he did something like this it would be 25 games.

Don't get me wrong, I wish the NHL would come down harder on suspensions and fines, but I just can't connect what happened a week and a half ago to pretty much last Sunday, to Torres getting 25 games. The lack of consistancy here is just really baffling.

I think there are two keys to the Torres suspension: 1) There was significant injury on the play, and 2) it's Raffi Torres.

As Shannahan points out in the video, it's not just that he is a repeat offender but he also repeats the same type of hit time and time again. They show a few recent examples but you can go back to 2006 and watch him deliver a series-ending elbow to Michalek's head.

He plays to injure, that is part of his game. For that reason I think the suspension is more of a message to Torres himself rather than the whole league. Kind of like what they did to Matt Cooke - it's a message saying either change your game or get out.

Also, the fact that the NHL has been receiving such negative media attention with regards to violence this post-season likely factored into the decision as well.

Torres got the book thrown at him. Good.

This. Weber got off light but no matter what he hasn't been doing the same **** for almost a decade. Raffi has. And he has learned the wrong lessons from it too, having been to the finals twice because of hits just like this. So he needs something severe to unlearn things.

Sorry, I like Semin and Carlson. I don't like anyone on the Bruins.

If Detroit, Vancouver, Boston, SJ, Pittsburgh, Chicago, and NYR are all gone after Round 1...

Same, and I also like Johansson, Backstrom, and Alzner.

And don't look now, but Sasha has 3 goals in 5 games. Some "choker" he is.

It's just their bias against Russians. Sasha is great.
