So, shall we begin? Armchair GM thread
Alright peeps, the fun begins. How do we fix our team for next year?
|
Trade for McGinn, Setoguchi, and Ehrhoff :sarcasm:
|
Too soon, Executus.
|
too soon. can we agree to a two week moratorium on armchair gm threads? gives us a chance to recover, buy a new tv, fix the holes in our walls, etc.
|
Trade both marleau and pavs. Give in to the bluejackets demands and trade pavs for nash, atleast nash would try in the playoffs just for the reason he would finally have the chance to do some damage there.
Trade marleau for a bag of pucks for all I care, just get him off this team. Granted a bag of pucks might be overpayment for the other team so throw in the sharks 2nd round pick to even up the trade a bit. |
Give Edmonton everyone for the 1st and then have Yakupov be our only player

Marleau for Roy! |
Early thoughts:
-Buy out Handzus -Trade Clowe and Murray -Don't re-sign Mitchell, Moore, Ferriero, Winchester, Galiardi, White, Vandermeer -Re-sign Winnik, Braun, Wingels, Desjardins and Braun -Get more speed for the top six -Get a left-handed offensive defenseman -Fire Woodcroft and Shaw (give T-Mac another chance with new assistants) |
To be honest I think out of the top 6 only Clowe should go and Mitchell from the bottom 6. Trade Clowe, Mitchell, a 1st and a prospect for Nash. Maybe throw in Galiardi but I think without Galiardi its a fair trade. Everyone is saying get rid of Marleau, Pavelski and Clowe but I think that some players are just not good against some teams, and thats what happened to our big guns unfortunately. Keep Mclellan but fire Woodcroft and Shaw.

1. New staff. IMO they played themselves out of a job during the regular season already. At the very least get new assistant coaches, but TMac is still responsible for them. I'm still completely baffled why no defensive coach was brought in after last season when it obvious where the team needed help the most.
2. Trade Murray. His lack of speed is exposed too often and it looks like he even lost a step. I love his toughness and leadership but that just isn't cutting it with the new NHL. 3. Try and shop Clowe. He's been awful all season long and there's really no defending his play. I think he'll have a bounceback season next year (really can't do much worse than this year), but his poor speed and defense is a liability. If the team wants to do a rebuild, try and get a high pick and some prospects. If not, at least try and get a struggling top-6 back who is faster. 4. Shop Niemi if we can replace him within the organization or if a better goalie is in the market. The system is definitely to blame for most of the Sharks' troubles, but they have to play the way they do because Niemi's rebound control and defensive reads are below average. 5. Would love to trade Marleau but he's not going anywhere. He's doing the little things but that's not what he's paid to do, and ultimately I don't see the team winning anything noteworthy with him as a centerpiece. Unfortunately the team is stuck with him, so hopefully he's put in a more secondary role and the other players can step up around him. Hell, maybe a new staff will kick him into gear like we all hope. 6. Shop Boyle with his limited NTC while we can get a return for him. He has maybe one good year left so it's smart to get value for him while he still is worth a lot and before he starts to decline. 7. Sharks desperately need a puck moving left-handed defenseman. Pick one up in free agency or trade some of our defensive prospects/players for one. I'd be willing to move Demers if he gets a decent return, but he'll likely get better so that's not something I would want as a first choice. Sharks core IMO Forwards: Thornton, Couture, Pavelski, Havlat (and I guess Marleau since he's not going anywhere) Defense: Vlasic, Burns Honestly not bad. Aside from Thornton (who is still playing at an elite level) and Marleau (who doesn't really belong here), the average age is still young enough to keep the team competing for a long time. |
Too soon? I don't think so.
The only people I care to see next year: Couture - Thornton - Havlat xxxx - Pavelski - xxxx xxxx - Desjardins - Wingels xxxx - xxxx - xxxx Vlasic - Burns xxxx - Boyle xxxx - xxxx xxxx xxxx The rest can GTFO as far as I'm concerned ... |

what's the point of watching next year if we'll just see the same ****? |
I'm telling you the Sharks should hire this guy
http://lightning.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=626893 Why the **** not, its not like Summer is going to come up and be awesome. |
get rid of gutless patty. good bye to clowe, murray and boyle. todd can leave also
|
In a perfect world, if anyone asked will waive:
I'd still only trade Handzus. If Marleau is traded, it better be for a #1 draft pick. Anything less than that would be a mistake. We need MORE fast players, not less, and we literally won't be able to replace his talent, no chance. Boyle I only trade for the right deal. Murray gone, Clowe gone, Pavelski if a fast player is brought in to replace him. Of course you bid on Parise and Suter, but don't get your hopes up. |
I want exciting players on this team. This past season just seemed so boring.
Either bring in some danglers and snipers, or change the system to be a run-and-gun team. Screw the dump and chase, grinding it out mentality. |
bring in
nash j.staal bolland JVR asham b.stuart vokoun ship out clowe pavs marleau murray niemi dont care what else we need to ship out to get the needed players i outlined. run lines of couture-thornton-nash JVR-Staal-Havlat Galliardi-Bolland-Winnik asham-desjardins-wingels vlasic-burns stuart-boyle braun-demers fa dman, doesnt matter vokoun greiss roll that. the MOST IMPORTANT thing to playoff and regular season success is having 3 lines that have 1 #1 center, and 2 second line centers. |

I hope DW doesn't do any knee-jerk moves and makes the team even more top-heavy. Boyle/Marleau/Thornton is enough as it is, and really the only one among them that I wouldn't get rid of is Thornton.
Also new contracts are coming up soon. Burns is on a new contract next year, Couture and Pavelski and due for a raise, and Demers/Braun will be making more than 1.2 million in the near future. |
We need to get younger in the top six, peppered with experience.
Bid for parise, but don't get your hopes up. Grab Stuart, Boyle at 35 was playing 30 min a game. Limit his minutes. He's still valuable. Try for Parise-Thornton-XXX XXX-marleau-havlat Winnik-pavelski-XXX Wingels-desi-XXX Burns-vlasic Boyle-Stuart Demers-Braun Murray Try to trade clowe. Figure out the best spot for galiardi/Mitchell Look into UFA |
