The Story So Far

Through 5 games in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, the Florida Panthers have taken a 3-2 series lead over the New Jersey Devils.

The Devils opened the series with a 3 goal 1st period outburst that broke the record for most shots allowed in a playoff game period by the Panthers. The Panthers responded in the 2nd with a 2 goal comeback attempt but fell short in a lifeless 3rd.

In Game 2, the Panthers, still at home, came out early by scoring the fastest goal in Panthers playoff history, and the fastest playoff powerplay goal since 1987. From there, the Cats built a 3-0 lead, only to watch it also shrink to 3-2 in the 3rd. Somehow, they held on to win their first playoff game since 1997.

In Game 3, the Devils roared to another commanding 3-0 lead, but coach Kevin Dineen helped stop the bloodshed by replacing Jose Theodore with Scott Clemmensen, Brodeur's former backup. Then the powerplays started and so did the Panthers. 3 powerplay chances were given to them and all 3 were capitalized on, exposing the Devils' PK and Brodeur in the process, chasing him from net. Even Mike Weaver got himself his first goal in over a year even strength. The battle between Hedberg and Clem raged on, but the Panthers found themselves victorious.

Game 4 saw the Devils tie up the series with a convincing 4-0 shutout win over the Panthers. Scott Clemmensen made his first NHL Playoff start but to little support offensively.

Game 5 had the return of Jose Theodore to the crease back in South Florida, and the Panthers returned the favor with a 3-0 shutout victory of their own. Rats flew once more.

Now, in Game 6, the Panthers have a chance to do what virtually no hockey pundit predicted: win the series. New Jersey will likely be up to the task and have the home ice advantage in this game. But the Panthers' will to win may just be enough to move on to the next round tonight.

News And Notes

Primary Target
http://www1.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Z...fqYcFLDg4l.jpg
Zach Parise, captain of the Devils and likely an unrestricted free agent this summer. Parise has performed well this season but has his detractors who feel his game is a bit lacking at times for his potential. It's expected he'll cash in with a new team this offseason, but for now, he's just trying to keep his team's playoff hopes alive.

Kris Versteeg has 2 points in his last 2 games, tied for the team lead with 2 goals.

We haven't been good away this year, so not getting my hopes up.

Weiss with the rattrick and Panthers win and defeat the evil force from Jersey!

GO CATS GO

Great GDT!!!

Anyone else notice the arms race that's developed in the GDT department? Pretty soon we'll be on page 2 before the 2nd post

(not that I mind... :D)

NJ_CATS_FAN 04-23-2012 06:04 PM

I dont care if we win 1-0 or 8-7, LETS END THIS SERIES NOW!!!!!!!!! Do not let this get to game 7, drive the final nail in the coffin here. Hopefully the Devils are so deflated from the Game 5 loss that they dont give it 100%. Of course, the other side of that is they are pissed and come out with 110%. The Cats better be ready to play and ready to put an end to this series. LETS GO CATS!!!

Bergy 2x, Soupy, Jovo in the empty net.

Again the first 10 minutes of this game are critical. I hope we are the team with something to fight for. We should take the fight to them and pound them the first 10 minutes.

Reading this post makes me ask some disturbing questions?

Does Mike Milbury have a brain?

If he doesn't isn't it likely that there is a black hole between his eyes?

Can a black hole explode?

If it did would it take the universe with it?

A black hole is unlikely to explode it is more likely to implode. Think about a dollar store garbage bag with too much **** inside of it. The bottom rips and all the crap comes flying out the bottom. Same with matter in a dark hole theoretically except the **** getting dumped out might be dark matter or flows into a different universe.

As for Millbury well there is no scientific theory. Its known fact he has no brain.

adam graves 04-23-2012 07:07 PM

The only way we win is if the panthers play like its game7. Otherwise, we lose big. Your not closing out the devs with some halfarse pretty boy game.

Then your leaving a lot up to cHance in a game 7 between 2 obviously even matched teams.

However, the same effort like Saturday, and we will be looking at the ECSF. It's up to them.

One team has to move on.

Why not us?

Awesome questions, but if I had to guess it isn't somehting as interesting as a blackhole, it's likely a bit of lint, a gumwrapper, and a paperclip. Nothing that makes any sense, which is fitting for Milbury haha.

FlaPnthrsPunk 04-23-2012 07:23 PM

I don't care what the score is or how it's done. Just win the damn game and win your first series since 1996. Sure, it would be cool to win it at home in a Game 7, but I'd rather them just win it asap. LGP!!!

dbhislife 04-23-2012 07:32 PM

So I have this banquet to attend (I am up for an award on campus) at 6:30pm....should be home around 8:30 or so. Someone want to send me text updates for the first period and change? I will PM you my cell number. Otherwise I will have to rely on Gamecenter to update the building where the banquet is has crappy cell phone reception.

GO CATS GO!

panthertod 04-23-2012 07:38 PM

I love how a few days ago we were just happy to be in the playoffs, then we were happy not to be swept, then we were happy to get a split on the road, then we were super happy to win game 5.

Now we won't be happy unless we're still playing a week from now.

It's nice to not be content just being there.

They can do this, go panthers.
