I've been reading tweets that Kesler hurt his shoulder in February and may require surgery.

It seems like at the end of every season he requires surgery to repair something.

They just showed his interview on TSN and simultaneous showed the hit he took from Kronwall when we played the Wings. Chances he injured himself on that hit?

Hopefully they don't wait to do the surgery like they did last year

Kinda makes sense. If I recall correctly he was playing pretty good up until around then.

I think people who are angry at Kesler for "using injuries as excuses" are sort of missing a key point or two big time.

1. The guy has never him self used these as excuses. If anything the opposite.

2. We should be more worried about his body not being able to withstand much more of how he plays.
He is not getting any younger, and he is getting injuries to places that take away mobility and power.

GoTeamDom 04-25-2012 05:56 AM

On a slightly different note, since it is pretty clear that Cory is going to be the starting goalie going forward, does anyone know if he has had any previous injuries?

He stated on After Hours that cramps and hydration have been an issue before, acting up again vs the 2011 Hawks in Game 6.

Aside from this is there anything to expect? Hopefully not a weak groin like Cloutier!

Hopefully they don't ride him too hard next year. I'm hoping for 55-58 games, a Tim Thomas workload.

Must have injured his passing shoulder ;)

This does this the question why didn't we get more playoff scoring? Or did they just write the year off?

Off the year we wrote.

Bieksa is too banged up to play at the worlds.

Will we even be a playoff team with our goalie playing that few games?

We are gonna miss Luongo if that's the case.

However, it’s in the abdominal region and that’s why he became known as Mr. Maintenance before the postseason.

“We’re still trying to determine what it is,” Kurt Overhardt, the Denver-based agent for Bieksa said of what medical procedure will be followed in the offseason to repair damage in the midsection. “Everybody knows he doesn’t like to take time off.”
.........
there wasn’t the usual torque in the torso or heavy follow-through.
Well that would explain what happened to his shot...

Why are people so surprised? With the way Kesler plays no **** he's going to be all banged up.

If he's always banged up we're not going to win the cup. Basically we're going into the playoffs without a #2C 50% of the time.

My guess on Kesler is that it happened sometime in March - or was exasperated in March. They put him on the point unloading his big slap shot against the Jets and then immediately stopped it, and I don't think we saw anything but weak wristers for the remaining games.

Agreed, it is a concern. Gillis mentioned today on 1040 that they'll try to teach him to protect himself more (not sure how effective this will be unless you want to change his style of play) and also to surround him with bigger, more physical teammates to help reduce the physical wear and tear on Kes.

Makes no sense at all. This is the kind of thing that leaves you wondering "What if?" in the offseason. Someone needs to keep the bigger picture in mind here with regard to health. There was no need to come back so early. :shakehead

Mr. Canucklehead 04-27-2012 04:40 PM

Not too surprising about Bieksa, we knew he was hurting for a while. He was still pretty effective, though - had a great Game in Game 4.

I don't think it is the same injury that made him undergo surgery. He came back early from that one, sure, but I think I've heard his latest injury is a shoulder injury.

My guess is if they had him go through surgery (and this happened in Feb/March), he would have been done for the season.

I don't know.

The medical staff has done some pretty retarded things this year (and even last year).
