Underwhelming performance by St.John so far. Except a very good shift by the Galiev-Jurco duo. The rest is meh and still sleeping.

Mathletic 04-24-2012 08:13 PM

Beaulieu with the goal on the PP

Sags still up 2-1

ClasslessGuy 04-24-2012 08:22 PM

I wonder how good can Bealieu be.. He is young, he is pretty big, I believe he might end up even better than Subban ...

I dont see it. Big Beaulieu fan but Subban was putting up more impressive numbers in junior considering how much of a powerhouse St.Johns is. The way Subbans defensive game has grown leaps and bounds as well is also not a normal development curve, not to say Beaulieu couldnt have a similar one.

I think best case scenerio he can match Subbans offensive ceiling but I dont see him becoming the two-way beast Subban has turned into.

Etienne brodeur scored the winning goal for Chicoutimi

He will be, I've said that ever since I've been following Bealieu and the Dogs. Better skater, great shot and way better instincts then PK, even though PK's awesome too.

With a powerhouse team, you're likely to see the offence more spread around. It's also proven Beaulieu can produce offence. I think he's focusing more on his defensive play right now and that's a good thing for his development. We know he's got the skating, the instincts, the shot and the vision. We need to see if he can handle big minutes, strong players, and be able to thrive in key situations.

Subban was asked to do a lot more offensively than Beaulieu is. SJ has a powerhouse team so he doesn't have to try and rush every time he is on the ice.

Beaulieu has a lot of the same tools as Subban but a different frame, Beaulieu is 3 inches taller and Subban is build thick and sturdy like a football running back. Beaulieu will probably play at 6'3" 215lbs in the NHL in a couple years.

I am well aware if all this. All im saying is that as of today Subban is easily a top-15/20 defenseman in the entire league and when he dominates for stretches he can play like a top 5. He has far surpassed all expectations from his draft day. I think to expect Beaulieu to match or exceed this is a monstrous claim to make. He still has miles to go before reaching that point, he has the tools in the toolbox... Now its a matter of time before we figure out if he knows how to use them at higher levels as he moves forward.

I'm certainly not ready to claim him better than Subban, especially considering the bulk of his progresssion came in his 2nd and 3rd seasons after being drafted.

I get what you're saying, to say Beaulieu has Subban potential is one thing, but expecting him to be as good or better is another...but they have a lot of similarities.
