Martin St. Louis interview: "We're not that far away. I totally believe that."

Quote:

You look at teams like Jersey and Ottawa; you feel like every team is only a couple of players away from turning it around. There’s things you can’t control like injuries, so every team that starts training camp feels that they have a chance and I’m sure we’re going to feel that way when we come back next year. But I do have full faith in what Steve can being and what he will do this summer.
Quote:

As you get older you want a whack at the playoffs and the games in late May and early June, and I think Steve knows that and is aware of that, and if I didn’t believe that we can be playing those games next year, maybe I’d think about playing somewhere else. But I firmly believe we can be in that battle next June because I know what Steve can bring.
Quote:

Obviously, Steve got a lot of assets at the deadline -- draft picks and stuff -- so I’m looking forward to see what we do with all that and I know he’s going to make our team better for next year.

Woah....

Understandable, yet frightening. I hope he is in Lightning BLACK when he retires, my favorite player

This team doesnt need to do anything crazy. Yes they need a Goalie and a defenseman. However I believe they dont even need to be great. Just need to be solid. Every time we have had solid defense and goaltending we have been very tough to beat. We can find those without breaking the bank or trading all of our picks away. I think if anybody can do that its SFY.

It's the hate zone. I think they were all happy with Lawton/Tocchet. Couldn't win, but they were tough, damn it.

It really is terrible. I didn't look but I can assume the comments include:
- The team is to soft
- Trade Vinny for Carkner, Neil, and Paul MacLean's mustache
- The reason why we didn't win the cup this year is because Marty doesn't have the C on his sweater.
- Hedman is a bust
- Yzerman hasn't made a single good trade yet
- The reason why we didn't win the cup this year is because the uniforms don't have black.
- Boucher should fired
- Trade Vinny, Let Labrie take his place.

I think that about covers that groups train of thought.
Did I miss anything?

In the rare times I read and posted in the comments section of that website, wanting a tougher team seemed to be frowned upon. I guess things have changed now that we're a "bad" team again.

Exactly. Whatever the Lightning are currently doing is wrong over there. No matter what the circumstances. If Yzerman did toughen up the lineup, they would be *****ing about the goons and lack of skill.

Bunch of old dudes *****ing at their computers. I stopped posting over there around the time Lawton was hired.

 Sorry!

It just amazes me how they can't see the bigger picture with Yzerman and Boucher. It's almost as bad as the Lightning facebook group.

It's these sorts of opinions that give our friends up north a sense of entitlement about hockey.

why are you surprised? when marty re-signed he pretty much asked straight up if the plan was to compete for the cup each year. That is his clear priority. He probably could've gotten more money if he had gone elsewhere but he stayed with the organization pretty much with the caveat that the plan was to compete now.

Honestly with Stammer, Vinny playing better if hes healthy, and marty it is possible. It is the supporting cast that helps them that will make the difference.

A D man to replace Ohlund and one of the vancouver goalies or a true No. 1 from elsewhere would be nice too.
