To be put in the same category as those two, it’s a tremendous honor. At the same time though, that’s not the trophy that I set out to win nine months ago, eight months ago, whatever. We still have a shot at the other one, and that’s what we’re working at right now.’’ (Is it satisfying in a way, given that players on the West Coast often aren’t recognized as much? …) “Yeah, absolutely. To be put in that category is a tremendous honor. It’s something that a lot of hard work goes into, and it’s a credit to the way these guys [teammates] played in front of me all year. Being a goaltender, it’s a position that you’re more dependent on your teammates than any other position in sports. For your goalie to be put in a category like that, it means that these guys are doing a tremendous job, which they’ve done for me all year.’’ (The awards ceremony is in Las Vegas. Is that a trip you will look forward to? … ) “We’ve got a flight to St. Louis tomorrow. That’s on my mind more than that trip. I’m looking forward to the flight to St. Louis tomorrow."

"It feels great. It’s always fun and exciting to move on in the playoffs. You don’t play the game to just win one playoff series, though. You play the game to win, and win the whole thing. We realize there’s a lot of work ahead of us still, but it feels great, just to look back at the importance of this series win, with so many guys who hadn’t won a playoff series before on our team, and the organization not winning one in the past 11 years. So, it’s pretty special.” (Can you give us a sense of how many calls or emails you got last night? … ) “[laughs] Yeah, there was about 140 text messages, I think, when I checked my phone. It’s great to see that support from your family and your friends and cousins and people that you know and are friends with. A lot of people were watching obviously, from Canada, and it was on Hockey Night in Canada so that was pretty cool. Whoever scores the goal, it is what it is. It’s just a matter of winning the game and winning the series, and it was definitely a fun night.” (What was the mood on the bench and in the locker room throughout the game? You probably didn’t get the start you wanted, and then it seemed to improve. Were you guys pretty consistent, or did you feel the game shifting a bit? … ) “No, we were fine. We definitely weren’t happy with our first period. We knew they were going to come with a good push, and probably a couple good pushes. They were pretty physical at points in that game, and we were running around a little bit, weren’t very composed with the puck when they were physical like that. Getting in after the first period, and just regrouping and just being down one-nothing, and even after the second, just being down one-nothing, that was huge for Quickie. I think we killed off five straight penalties, which took a lot out of our penalty-killers for sure. Quickie came up with some huge saves to keep it one-nothing. Second intermission, we were fine. We knew we just had to score one goal. Darryl kept saying, `We could be here all night.’ That’s the kind of mindset we kind of took going into the third. `We’re going to tie it up, and if we need to be here until midnight or later, we’ll have to do that.’ That was our mindset in the third period. You could see how aggressive we were on them, and I think it just took a little bit of the wind out of their sails when we tied it up. Then we just kept pushing forward.” (What does it mean for this team to break through and get to the second round? … ) “It means a lot, for sure. Any team you play for, you’ve got to have pride in the organization, and care about what the organization means and represents, and the history behind it. You see highlights of Deadmarsh’s goal against Detroit all the time, and how important that was at the time. But, us as a group right now, right here, we want to make our own history, and make our own story lines and follow through. We feel like we have a really, really good team, and don’t let this chance slip away. I’m 29 years old, but we’ve all heard it before, from other guys that I’ve played with. You never know when you’re going to get back to the playoffs and win a series, win two, three series and get a chance to play for the Stanley Cup. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us yet, but that was a big step for our organization, a big step for a lot of guys that had never won a series before. From our goaltender on it, there was a lot of gained experience, throughout this series, that will definitely help a lot in the future here.” (Darryl talked about looking ahead to St. Louis. How much time do you guys take to enjoy this before you go forward? …) “Well, we enjoyed it after the game, in the dressing room. Had some laughs and had a good time with it, but we were already talking, on the back of the plane last night, about St. Louis and what challenges they bring and how they’re going to be different from Vancouver, and some of the things that Vancouver showed us that can help us in this next series against St. Louis. That’s just how we are. You’ve always got to look forward and look ahead and focus. We had a day off today, and enjoy it a little bit today maybe, but come to the rink tomorrow and get right back on the horse and focus and prepare for St. Louis."

It was kind of the flip side for us.’’ (on getting to the second round…) “It’s huge. I’ve been here for eight, nine years, and this is a pretty good feeling for a lot of guys in here, especially the guys who have been here for an extended amount of time. It’s been a work in progress. This team has worked hard, and in saying that, we’ve got to enjoy it but get ready to go again.’’ (on winning three road games…) “I’ve said this for the last couple years. This team, we’re definitely designed better for the playoff hockey, than we are for the regular season. I think, when you have a goalie like Quicker, it always gives you a chance on the road. He made some key saves tonight, a couple breakaway saves for us. I think we did a pretty good job of limiting their grade-A scoring chances, other than a couple chances. We’ve shown that we’ve been able to battle. We’ve been in 2-1 games all season, and it was more of the same."

The best experience is a winning experience.’’ (on the third period…) “We wanted to see if we could draw a couple penalties. The power play was a little anxious early, and then I thought we settled down.’’ (on eliminating the Canucks…) “I know exactly how they feel. I was part of that in Chicago once. It’s a grind. Do it, do it, do it, and then you win that award [President’s Trophy] and then you start to look ahead. I’m sure a little bit of what they’re going to look at. Obviously I give our players a ton of credit and I give their players a ton of credit too, for what they’ve done in the last two years.’’ (on Brad Richardson’s goal…) “That line was very good for us again. It was eight, nine, 10 minutes, but they were very good in the last game and they were very good tonight.’’ (on his young players winning a playoff series…) “To win a playoff series when you haven’t played in one, or won one, that is significant for them. They will relish that and learn from it and move on again. It’s good for Jonathan Quick. Him and Schneider, over the years, since their young days, have done that a lot."

NOTE : Regarding LARGE SIZE IMAGES / YELLOW RE-SIZE IMAGE BARS ABOVE PICS, let me offer up one nice little suggestion ...
This will get rid of those pesky yellow resize bars over the top of some larger pictures ... as they annoy the hell out of me and maybe they do you also ?
- Go into/click on your "USER CP" {control Panel} up top left in the red bars
- on the left under 'Settings & Options' click on "Edit Options"
- scroll down to 'Thread Display Options', and then 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- click on the 'Drop Down List Box' over on the Right of 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- select it to "KEEP ORIGINAL SIZE"
- SAVE your selections !
There ... now don't that look MUCH BETTER

DAkings20 04-28-2012 12:45 AM

I'm thinking both teams will be rusty at first due to the long layoffs. Blues will have a boost playing at home though, Kings gotta match that. Play hard and hit them, and hopefully the 2nd line can produce.

Go Kings Go!

2nd Round and the Kings get to be the underdog again! That's means there is a lot more pressure on St. Louis because everyone expects them to win. And just like I did before the Vancouver series...

Hey, St. Louis
