End of Season Wrap - Team 1200 (1:30-3:30)
So in case anyone wasn't aware they are doing a post game wrap show on the Team right now featuring all the closing interviews. I'm sure they'll be posted on the team website later in the day, but if you want to hear them tune in!
So far they have done the Daniel Alfredsson interview and that is it. > Has to think about next season still and he'll be speaking to Maclean/Murray to see what they want to do. > If he comes back he'll just play out his contract without restructuring it. Note: If anyone can change it the time should've been 1:00-3:30 but oh well. |

Zooming in and out on the piece of paper on the podium. :biglaugh: |
Just me or did Alfredsson's voice sound really strange in that interview? I could barely tell it was him at first on the radio.
|
I wish they got some mics for the people asking questions...

The coach:
- Paulrus says "wouldn't we all like to be in Philly." - very pleased with growth of team. - healthy distaste with not being in Philly today. - realistic opportunity to win game 6 slipped away. - have to score your way to the Cup, didn't get enough. - scoring depth not as consistent as regular season. - created enough opportunities, have to bare down more. - good foundation to build on. - expectation level has increased based on playoffs. - has evaluated season with Alfie. - thanked Alfie for help through the season. - conversation didn't go into retirement talk. - PM didn't get to decide to retire as a player, "they retired me." - didn't really have expectation of what team would be. - core of vets are really good players - core are proud guys, knew they had to be better than year before. - competitive group all year. - proud of the fact he got to be a HC in NHL. - leadership group did outstanding job, deserve more credit for team success. - hard part is to repeat this season's success. - excited about September, but also scared to death. - hardest thing to do all year was to tell a player they weren't playing. - doesn't know a good way to tell a guy he wasn't playing. - team needs to get better, as does every team. - keep building on identity, players have to get better. - "See ya in September." |
LOL. Murray is trying SOOOO hard not to insult Muckler's drafting while also saying it was terrible. :biglaugh:
|
Murray challenged Foligno to prove he's a 2nd liner next year.
|
Missed some of this.
GM... - feels team should still be playing today. - type of team this year was fun to be around. - all players he met with said it was a good, fun, enthusiastic group. - team the fans enjoyed. - fans like effort and energy. - thanks Melnyk for giving time for rebuild. - big decisions were made because Melnyk believed in it. - expectations are different, more challenging. - recognize scouting staff for trades and draft picks. - thanks leadership group for job they did. - hopes to have some RFAs done over the next month. - no timetable given to Alfie. - not worried about Karlsson contract: "We'll get him signed." - team needs a defensive defenseman for sure. - wants a 20-25 goal scorer for that Alfie-Turris line. - hopes Foligno can be that guy. - Spezza had a good, productive year. - Spezza: important reason team made the playoffs. - harder for skill guy to make impact in playoffs. - has no thoughts on future captain, basically doesn't want to talk about it. - Swedish federation has to insure EK if he wants to go to WC. - has never discouraged a player to go to the Worlds. - won't automatically qualify every RFA - Pierre Dorion and his staff do great job, don't get enough credit. - seeing kids go through Binghamton Calder Cup to first year in NHL is gratifying. - going to be young in some spots next year, but will be a better team going forward. - told players they better come to camp in top shape, because there will be real competition. - doesn't expect to be a cap ceiling team. - doesn't know where things are CBA-wise. - going about business as normal (get used to that phrase from all GMs) - credit to scouts for Turris. - Turris: very good, intelligent player - Turris: more strength and more balance = better player. - Turris and Bishop were positive moves. - message to Robin Lehner: have a great summer, work hard, come to camp to compete. - Lehner asked about Bishop's one-way contract. - Lehner: no question he's a top end prospect. - fans have told him he should be proud of the team. - conscious of Tampa Bay effect ie.: playoffs one year, big step back year after. - enough support from leadership group to make sure fall back doesn't happen. |
When Murray was talking about the cap situation, I got the feeling that he wasn't interested in going after a big name free agent this summer. Whether this was direction from Eugene, or because of the CBA, or because he just isn't all that convinced about the guys available this summer I have no idea.
Anyone else get that from this interview? |

He said: "There's no question that we need another defensive defenseman." To me that means he's going after Garrison/Suter. |
littleD, thanks for the great summary. Appreciated.

These guys must have done some type of cheering/shouting all of their voices sound pretty hoarse haha.
|
I doubt Rutherford will trade Allen. The Canes are a team filled with young defensemen so they need guys like Allen to provide an anchor.
Edit: Scott Hannan looks like a quality guy and plays well as a D D-men. |
Kuba's a Timberwolves fan. Yuck!
