"The rumor mill says that the next-gen RIM smartphones will be underpinned by quad-core Snapdragon S4 chipsets and that will feature HD displays, LTE support, and, of course, the new BlackBerry 10 OS."

That's the category that the new phones fall under.
Certain specs = Smart Phone.
Certain Higher specs = Super Phone.

Nah, that's the new category Bell has created in order to sell off certain phones, dude. It's a marketing buzzword.

Superphone vs smartphone: what's the difference?:

http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-...erence-1055564

Quote:

A superphone can be an Android phone - the Samsung S2 narrowly qualifies - but it definitely can't be an iPhone

superphones have at least 4-inch screens and proper multitasking that doesn't stop apps when you leave them. You will be shocked - shocked! - to discover that by that definition, the iPhone 4 and 4S aren't superphones.

Superphones are BlackBerry phones

RIM's been promising BlackBerry superphones for ages, and its QNX-loaded phones are due this year. The devices will have dual core processors, 4.1-inch screens and will be out... eventually.

LOL that article makes the writer sound like he likes anything that is not Apple's iPhone. I think this thread will have to be renamed the Neely BB thread.

Oh gosh, such tripe.

Towers 05-01-2012 10:51 AM

So rather than make any comments towards your previous posted article you're going to create a whole new thread (23 posts early) and post more BB propaganda?

Yeah, I'm gonna go the opposite of you and call it propaganda.

I used to support you and your pro-BB position but man you are so far gone it's not even funny anymore. Even Beo, who was a supporter, is questioning whatever is is the **** you're doing.

BlackBerry World 2012 opened today so I'm providing updates in the BlackBerry Thread to those that are interested.

It's no different than when the iPad 3 or iPhone 4S were announced. We had updates in the appropriate threads for for those events too.

Smelling Salt 05-01-2012 02:16 PM

No I don't work for RIM. (And I never have as I'm sure that will be your next question)

The new camera sounds pretty cool:

Quote:

But it was the smartphone's camera that really seemed to excite the audience. It has a feature that captures several frames in quick succession, frames which can be combined to create a single "ideal" picture. For example, if one person was blinking in a group photo shot, they can be replaced with an image of their face taken moments earlier with their eyes open.

When the company demonstrated fixing one picture of a woman — opening her eyes and tacking a smile on her face — the audience gasped and burst into applause.

That enthusiasm was no doubt what organizers hoped for, as app developers will be a major part of the company's strategy to keep pace with competitors.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/stor...berry-ten.html

Quote:

It also has a camera that allows a user to zoom in on a face within a picture, and to play around with frames on either side of when the picture was taken – and a video was shown of a user winding back the clock on a photo to a moment when the subject’s eyes weren’t closed.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...ontent=2418869

Quote:

Along with gasps from the crowd, the camera app also caught the eye of veteran tech analyst Peter Misek of Jefferies and Company.

“Of all the functions, the one that's truly world class is the camera. This is an edge over Apple,” said Misek. “Apple’s been trying to do something like this for a while, and it's really hard to do.”

I'm sure the folks at Palm and Microsoft will be happy once they get a look at the new OS.

The Russian General 05-01-2012 06:41 PM

And the designers of MeeGo. Camera app looks impressive though.

Johnny LaRue 05-02-2012 10:38 AM

I appreciate the ability to talk about BBW. RIM is making a lot of announcement rights now. The new BBX operating system looks amazing and RIM's first real challenge to the iOS and Android system's...albeit two years too late.

Seriously though, the camera, the keyboard and the browsing system look very well done. The next questions are firstly, is the BB10 OS going to be this easy to use in person, and will the hardware match the software?

I am using a Macbook Air right now. The Apple Os takes getting used to. Though, having a laptop this light is impressive. Also impressive, it runs very cool.
