Yes, it is bad, but don't let a few idiots be an image for the entire nation. Actually, there are plenty of black people that became celebrities in Russia over the past 10-15 years or so. Musicians, TV personalities, etc. Many of them come from marriages between local Russians and students from Africa (there was a significant influx of young Africans from upper-class African families into Russia in the 50s and 60s because of a world-class and free education). And let's not forget the relationship that Russia has had with people such as Paul Robeson or Dudley Randall; it has treated them FAR better than US, at that time.

Stuff like that happends allot of times in soccer too. The head of UEFA(european fotboll assoc.) has said that he will support away teams who refuses to play games if racial remarks like that are made. The officials should have called off the game...

Just couple weeks ago something like this happened in Madrid in a "friendly" between England and Spain, when english soccer stars we taunted by monkey sounds!

It just says a lot about the people who think it is funny!

That does imply that we are usually somehow a disgrace, doesn't it?

What I thought was interesting...

was the fact that there were fans with bananas. Think they were sold at the game, or smuggled in from outside? I have never seen a banana in a hockey rink before.

There are quit a bit of "Neu-nazi´s" in parts of europe and russia. They get allot of attention doing stuff like that. Sweden will have a black player this weekend when they play in Rosno Cup. If anything like that happens I hope the team leaves the ice.

Fletch, are you insinuating that someone used a "banana smuggler" for it's intended purpose? ;)
