When I saw Grigorenko at 11th, I knew I didn't have to read further.

Exactly. There's absolutely no chance that he falls to 11th.

AcuraMDX 05-04-2012 12:02 PM

I've had the pleasure of watching this guy play and he just isn't cut for NHL hockey. He gets his points against the weak teams and disappears when the going gets tough...see the playoffs. There's no question he's got the talent but i missing the heart and will. Does anybody remember Jason Bonsignore ?? I think he's the guy who drops.

I'd disappear too if I were trying to play playoff hockey while battling mononucleosis.

I like your mock actually, but you have Collberg listed twice. Grigorenko is this years Fowler.

I knew I didn't have to read further when I saw Trouba at 5. I don't ever like saying a draft scenario has "no chance" at happening but Trouba to Toronto at 5th overall has very, very little chance of happening.

Brian Burke would be run out of Toronto even quicker if he passed up on the chance to finally get a potential #1 center after all these years, especially for somebody like Jacob Trouba. Even if they did pass on Grigorenko then Dumba, Faksa, Teravainen, Rielly and even Girgensons would all be better fits for the Leafs than Trouba.

Matt Murray - goaltender - Soo Greyhounds.
Was the goalie for the Canad U18 team this year.
I think some day Philly is going to have to deal with this position.

FlareKnight 05-04-2012 02:06 PM

Did think 1-4 looked alright. But agreed that Trouba at 5 is a pick I'd really be against the Leafs to take. Of course Grigorenko also slipping to 11 made it hard to take things too seriously. His playoffs can't be taken into account with the mono he was up against. While I'm sure just having the Capitals keep drafting Russians makes things easier don't think Grigorenko will go anywhere near 11.

i think Vasilevski or Dansk would be a better option

Pretty much this.

And the points argument isnt a good one considering he has produced at an elite level everywhere he has been including having 18 points in 7 games (2nd in tournament scoring) as a 16 year old at the U-18s last year. Scouts also don't just look at points, they watch the players.

MPStoEberletoHall 05-04-2012 10:29 PM

Oilers will take a Defenceman at 32 or else a rugged forward like Wilson

Takashi 05-04-2012 10:54 PM

Wow this thing is failed. Grigorenko at 11th :amazed: There were talks during the season that he could've challenge yakupov as first overal. I highly doubt that he falls of the 5 first picks.

Ford Prefect 05-05-2012 06:30 AM

Every year there is someone who plummets. Fowler, Esposito, etc. I agree with the OP that if there is any hyped player likely to fall, it's Grigorenko. A drop of 8-9 spots isn't completely out of the question, when you have guys who haven't hurt their position (ie Galchenyuk and Rielly, due to injury) and who have turned it on of late (Forsberg and teravinen).

I love draft day!

Yes, I am aware of that, but the article is silent as to when that occurred. He may have played some the playoffs sick, he may have played none of the playoffs sick. Having had it in the past, I can tell you that there are other symptoms associated with it, that he never complained of (i.e. swollen lymph nodes, low grade fever, etc.). A lot of doctors give that diagnosis when they can't figure what the hell is wrong with you.

That might explain his concerning performance in the playoffs, but I think issues with him stem further back into the regular season.

DaveG 05-05-2012 09:28 AM

That's the million dollar question when it comes to Grigorenko, when did he get it and how much did it effect his play? Let's not forget that there were serious questions around Couture in his draft year that stemmed from him getting Mono, and it lead to him being there at #9. Would people seriously take even half the names that went before him over him right now? Only one I would really consider there is Kane.

I'm not saying Grigorenko is going to turn out just like that. But if I were a betting man, I'd bet that if someone gets Grigorenko any time after the #5 pick they're going to be laughing all the way to the bank a couple years later.

and FWIW I'd absolutely LOVE it if the Canes are able to land Kosmachuk at 47.

Prussian_Blue 05-05-2012 04:25 PM

My opinion, the Blues take either Stefan Matteau, Brady Skjei or Martin Frk ahead of Nicolas Kerdiles if all four are still on the board when the Blues pick in the first round.

And I see them picking Esa Lindell, Calle Andersson, or Tim Bozon ahead of Jordan Schmaltz in the second round, too.

pooleboy 05-07-2012 08:51 AM

Leafs are taking one of: yakopov/murray/gally/grigs/forsberg or I will be a very upset leaf fan

---Actually I agree that Grigorenko will be drafted about 8th-11th. There has already been two NHL Scouts who have said their teams would not draft Grigorenko anywhere in the 1st round. And that was before the Playoffs started. And the mono thing is very clear on what happened. Grigorenko said DURING the 2nd rd Halifax series he reported feeling tired for the 1st time. Unless he had Mono back in January it's fairly irrelevant. NHL GM's do not want a player who has the reputation of taking
shifts, periods & even games off. Not to mention there are worries about
Grigorenko that he might bolt for the KHL in a few years. I don't think theres any risk w/ Yakupov leaving but Grigorenko is another story. Who knows, maybe Mtl hires P.Roy and the Habs draft Grigorenko 3rd overall. But at this point a smart educated guress would be that teams w/ a top 8 overall pick
would much rather put their team sweater over the head of a high character talented player like Jacob Trouba rather than take a chance that Mikhail Grigorenko will actually turn that amazing talent into actual NHL production.

DuckJet 05-07-2012 02:39 PM

I personally feel that Anaheim would take Dumba instead of Teravainen. Just based on their draft tendencies.

Based on Anaheim's draft tendencies, do you think they could pick a guy like Rielly ?

People said the same thing about Fowler, Esposito, Cherapanov, Tarasenko, Gormley etc... etc....

This is a draft. Teams take the guys that they like and don't take guys they don't like. Just because several teams have him in their top 10 it doesn't mean he will go top 10.

Either you are very young and haven't seen enough drafts to know better, or you just haven't been paying attention, but a statement like yours is a bit much especially when we are talking about a player with as much debate as Grigerenko.

JPurp26 05-10-2012 09:36 AM

Buffalo will not draft two defenseman in round 1
