Pierre Dorion

Interesting interview on the team right now!

Would love some notes on this if anyone is willing...

I just caught the last bit where he was saying Da Costa just needs to work on his strength before he becomes a regular player at the NHL level.

In regards to the draft he said expect us to draft an impact player.

I thought he said they dont expect to get an impact player but are confident they will get a solid NHL player....

Pretty sure he said with the pick Ottawa has they would get "not necessarily an impact player, but a very good NHL player".

Sounds like Filatov returning is something they are thinking about, but they need to figure out under what conditions they'd want him back under.

Think he mentioned that Tim Murray is in the middle of contract talks and they still need to talk to Prince/Pageau about starting their pro careers.

Kenny Bania 05-07-2012 02:51 PM

The usual rhetoric about we will get at good player @ 15.

On his way to watch Culek in Q final. Sounds like they are going to sign him.

Interesting comment about last year's 6th overall pick. Had we known we would be moving Rundblad, we may have took a D (although they are still happy with Zbad).

Had 19 playes last year suit up with less than 71 games NHL experience.

Gave a real lukewarm response when asked if the org was going to qualify Filatov.

Touched on the D prospects that will be turning pro this year (Wideman, Blood), doesn't sound like any of our other NCAA guys will be leaving early.

So... Foligno-ish, not Karlsson-ish.

Somewhere in that wide range between probably.

Dougie Hamilton definitely fills a bigger need than Zibanejad for our future now.

Lyndon Slewidge 05-07-2012 03:56 PM

Maybe we'll see Z-bad flipped for a top D in this draft

I'd prefer Ryan Murphy. He's going to be a superstar. Hamilton looks like a Brad Stuart to me.

Last year post trade deadline when the Organization held a few of the STH Hot Stove events it was widely talked about that they would be taking the best forward available... Maybe if a guy like Larssen would have dropped they would have taken him but a young highly skilled fwd was the #1 need for them... In hindsight would they have picked a fwd if they would have known Turris would have been acquired and Silf would have had a crazy year?? Who knows but it seems as tho Dorion maybe thinks they dropped the ball on it.. or why bother bringing it up?

backdoorpass 05-07-2012 04:01 PM

cleasson may be signed to and over in bingo

HSF 05-07-2012 04:04 PM

no way is Zibby traded

he is exactly the type of player Murray loves. And is the type of player who can shine in the playoffs

Sounds like we will be picking a dman in the 1st round for sure.

I think Dorion just meant that they drafted Zibanejad to fill our void at Centre. Had he known Rundblad would be flipped for the 2nd line centre we needed, they would have targeted a D.

Reinhart, Ceci, Maata and Bystrom could bring just as good as any of the D taken around our 1st pick last year. But, at least IMO none of the forwards available at 15 in this draft will be as good as Mike.

The series against the Rags made it pretty clear that we desperately need a player like MZ. I'm still happy with the pick and a defenceman at 15 should fix our blueline problem as well.

Makes sense for a variety reasons:

- Djurgarden relegated from SEL for next year;
- Opporunity to play lots of minutes in Bingo with the Sens only having 7 defensemen currently under contract for 2012-13;
- Dorion hinted during the interview of potentially plucking a prospect out of Europe to come over to North America.

Steve Lloyd‏@Steve_Lloyd

June 1 is deadline to sign 2010 picks(non NCAA)or lose 'em. #Sens leaning to inking Jakub Culek. Pierre Dorion to watch in Rimouski on Wed.

-Says development slow but may allow him to be NHL player

playasRus 05-07-2012 06:53 PM

At first, I was like: man does Pierre Mcguire have a lot of insight on hockey teams.
Then i re-read the thread title.

If we're going to trade Z it sure as hell won't be for reclamation project.
