CBC Hates Russians

The criticism of Ovechkin, Semin and Anisimov is completely unfair.
Now, Don Cherry attacks lots of Euros. But everyone knows to take him with a grain of salt.

But it's pretty disgusting to here the CBC analyst blame Ovie and Semin on every shift.

On the second goal, Ovie took a pass in the skates and was tripped trying to get possession.
The play goes up the ice and Holtby allows a weak goal. CBC? They point out that Ovie "turned it over" and he's "still up the ice"
They don't point out the crappy pass in his skates. They don't point out that Ovie didn't need to be back because "his man" was behind him and didn't join the play.

CBC also hates puppies

Haha. Ovy does deserve every ounce of criticism though. This is one dreadful performance. Starting to believe Hunter as head coach and Ovy can't coexist.

Tanner Glass 05-12-2012 08:54 PM

NBC is loving them. All they show are videos of Ovechkin

LeHab 05-12-2012 08:57 PM

Both are not stepping up when it counts, well deserved.

Buck Aki Berg 05-12-2012 09:06 PM

Jim Hughson just wondered aloud if Dale Hunter will be the head coach of the Caps next season. He didn't even mention that they took the Eastern Conference champions to seven games.

Clearly CBC hates Canadian-born coaches.

Gump Hasek 05-12-2012 09:09 PM

The CBC is a television network, FYI; as such it is devoid of feelings such as hatred.

ChipAyten 05-12-2012 09:10 PM

people turn to tv for affirmation not information and only hear what they want to hear.

Q Continuum 05-12-2012 09:17 PM

OH, I thought you were a Russian poster. They've been doing a lot of crying about how everyone hates them and they are just a bunch of victims.

Getting a little ahead of ourselves aren't we?

Edit: I don't hear the CBC commentators too much, but whenever I watched them this playoffs I haven't really notices a notable anti-Russian bias. Could just be too small a sample size though.

They've been praising Ilya Kovalchuk throughout the playoffs this year, especially during the series against the Flyers. They also really like Pavel Datsyuk.

They also piled on Malkin while silently ignoring the fact that Crosby was basically invisible for most of the Flyer series.

Ovechkin and Semin laid a biggest turd tonight

I would say Ovie had a biggest influence in tonight's game. and not in a good way. They deserve every single criticism and then some alot of hate as well tonight.

They didn't have the broadcasting rights to the Philadelphia-Pittsburgh series. That was TSN. As a result, there would have only been a minimal amount of analysis from CBC.

I do recall Don Cherry was very critical of Sidney Crosby's game, though.

Crosbyfan 05-12-2012 09:39 PM

They seem to have opinions...on players...and have the nerve to express them on Public Television.

Sometimes I wonder who they think they are.

FakeKidPoker* 05-12-2012 09:39 PM

CBC seems fine.

It is TSN who pretty much takes the stance "If you're not Canadian or Mats Sundin/Daniel Alfredsson GTFO"

um 05-12-2012 09:54 PM

canadian media hates russians.... my god i think your onto something

ALLCAPSALLTHETIME 05-12-2012 09:56 PM

It'll ramp up even more prior to the Olympics in Sochi. They did a huge hatchet job on Ovie prior to the 2010 Olympics.

However, they can bash Semin and Ovie all they want tonight. they simply weren't even close to being good enough.

jigglysquishy 05-12-2012 10:02 PM

Ovechkin, who just came off his worst NHL season, deserves criticism.

Semin, who is effectively done in North America, deserves criticism.

Maybe its the player getting criticized, not the nation.

Kingler 05-12-2012 10:06 PM

The key players will always get more blame/credit than they deserved on TV. Its just the process of "drama"ing-up everything up

Very true. The Caps' captain, superstar, and highest paid player was awful in the biggest game of the year. Yet any criticism gets met with the 'race card,' or whatever you want to call it.

Beerfish 05-12-2012 10:32 PM

What a joke, Ovechkin has shown up for pretty well every playoff year he has been in, done whatever has been asked of him, even this year being hamstrung by a defesive minded do not lose coach who got results but certainly didn't play to the players strengths. He hits, he scores big goals he works his ass off, is a team player.

Ovechkin takes WAY more heat, especially re the playoffs than he deserves.

Richter915 05-12-2012 10:37 PM

CBC has hated non-Canadians not named Mats Sundin since...you know, the beginning of time.

nowhereman 05-12-2012 11:00 PM

Two highly-paid underachievers who struggle to play complete hockey and fail to show up when it counts.

Regardless of their nationality, they deserve criticism.

This year, Kovalchuk is the golden boy. The year before, it was Datsyuk. In 2009, it was Geno. CBC has certainly praised Russian players who deserve praise. Ovechkin and Semin aren't on that list and shouldn't be.
