American Captains

Three of the final four teams have American captains (Brown, Callahan, and Parise). Nice! :yo:

I Hate Chris Butler 05-12-2012 09:16 PM

Guess that means the Coyotes are a sure thing.

VinnyC 05-12-2012 09:16 PM

Well, this is it. The Coyotes are Canada's team.

Good luck with that...

If an American captain wins the Stanley Cup, it will be the first time since Derian Hatcher did it in 1999.

Looks like LA just became America's team! :sarcasm:

(RELAX, we all know the Rangers are...)

markisonfire 05-12-2012 09:31 PM

Well, the Coyotes were Canada's team. Then Phoenix took them.

Michael Peca would have been an appropriate alternative choice that year. Who knows how Game 7 would have played out, I suppose.

If Shane Doan wasn't so awesome, I would be upset about this.

Didn't you hear... they are planning to keep them in Phoenix a few more years. Patient.

the american fans should be proud that brown, parise, and callahan are leading their teams into the conference finals...but i also think the three are fantastic players no matter their nationality.

...and as for phoenix being "canada's team", they're the only team i don't want to win the cup, mainly b/c i don't want to see canada's own Raffi Torres with his name on the Cup. :shakehead

All are amazing captains that i'd love to have on my team. I think I'd rather have Callahan over the rest though.

WarriorofTime 05-12-2012 10:58 PM

Every team is going to name an American Captain now.

After the Ducks won the Cup TSN analyzed that in order to win the Cup you need to have the most Canadians in the League because Anaheim had the most Canadians in the League. True story.

saffronleaf 05-13-2012 01:29 AM

They're all excellent captains. Real 'heart-and-soul' type players.

I'm Canadian, but I have to say I think Team USA has a great chance at winning gold in Sochi (if the NHL allows its players to participate).

Most of my favorite players right now are American; Callahan, Parise, Backes, Kessel, Kesler (except for his damn diving nonsense), JJohnson, Suter -- and then you've got the slew of excellent American goaltenders (Quick, Thomas, Miller, Howard, etc.)

I think it will also be good for the marketability of hockey in the US if there are more homegrown players on the teams -- especially when they're core players and captains.

Boston sure proved them wrong last year...

Yeah, its a good thing Detroit hasnt been good in ages too, otherwise the "more Canadians=more wins" mindset would be considered ludicrous

Then Detroit proceeded to win the next one with Team Sweden :sarcasm:
