It's a little strange that "around the league" basically means one other game besides the Kings, but here we are. A good situation to be in :)

ScoreZeGoals 05-13-2012 12:19 PM

Quite possibly the last "Around the league" of the season.......let it be so :yo:

Sydor25 05-14-2012 04:23 PM

Who does everyone want to win the East?

I can't really decide who I would rather see win. I don't really hate either team and I think the Kings, if they make the finals, match up well with either team. Lundqvist does make me nervous, he can steal games better than Smith can.

TonySCV 05-14-2012 04:30 PM

I'd choose the Rangers primarily due to the fatigue factor. They've played essentially 16 games if you count OT time in the first two rounds. The Kings played 9 and all but one ending in regulation. The Rangers will effectively be playing their 5th series for the finals. They also have big-time difficulty scoring 5 on 5, which bodes well for the Kings.

Jersey is rested and has the firepower to score 5 on 5. They are the more dangerous team and they've got an old fart in net that can fill a hand with Cup rings.

It's pretty much a foregone conclusion that it'll be New Jersey coming out of the East anyway. No team who has played 14 games has ever won round 3. Fatigue really will become a huge factor in Round 3 for New York. I don't even think the series will be that close. It'll be just short of miraculous if the Rangers can pull off a series win.

Buddy The Elf 05-14-2012 04:34 PM

I keep picturing the Kings versus Rangers and the announcer saying "these two teams played in the first game of the NHL season and they will play in the last".

I don't really care. I personlly root for anti-NY in every situation. I think I'd enjoy seeing the Kings beat the Devils more than the Rangers if they should get there. It would be really sweet to see the Kings win the Cup with Carter/Richards to shove it in Philly's face and have Kovalchuk lose at the hands of the Kings.

And an 8th seed has never knocked out the one and two seeds in the same season. Nor has one won the Cup (I believe I heard that - not 100% if that is accurate). Never say never because the Kings are in uncharted territory and will have to break even further ground to win a Cup.

Sort of relevant, but not pertaining to the Rangers/Devils series...

Dale Hunter quit as the Capitals coach today.

I think McPhee is out this offseason also. Too much talent, too much time for this team to be losing it's marbles so frequently. Get ready for a rebuild Washington.

Buddy The Elf 05-14-2012 05:03 PM

I was looking at an old post of mine and apparently the last 10 cup winners have been at least a 4th seed.

Since the lockout, nobody has won the cup with an offense out of the top 10. Until this season:

NY 11th
NJ 15th
Phoenix 18th
LA 29th

It's an unusual playoff year. Time for the Kings to take advantage...

Yup, all of the statistical anecdotes went out the window this year. Still waiting for tomd to resurface. He is probably waiting for the team to collapse. Hopefully that never happens. I do owe him a Sundae and everyone on the board a blizzard from Dairy Queen if the Kings win the Cup. A deal is a deal.

I want to see the Rangers v. Kings ...

- a.) for what Buddy said ... I keep picturing the Kings versus Rangers and the announcer saying "these two teams played in the first game of the NHL season and they will play in the last".

- b.) for what Tony said ... the Rangers primarily due to the "fatigue factor"

- c.) because New Yorkers just need to be brought DOWN a notch ;)

- d.) because imagine all the New Yorkers heads exploding when they lose the Stanley Cup to the Kings, and Jonathan Quick walks away with the Vezina to boot. :D

- e.) because I want to see Big Mouth "prancing boy's" Barry's head explode when Brian Boyle plays in the Stanley Cup Finals :naughty:

Parise cant capitalize on that breakaway.

Great play by the d on that.

The Rags remind me of the Yotes and the devils look like a less impressive version of the kings.

The Rangers (and Devils) where why Round 2 was so boring according to the Main SC Board ;) :sarcasm:

ru4reals 05-14-2012 09:25 PM

I hate both teams Rangers - Devils! Devils definitely more because they've won Stanley most recently, but I think they're takin out the Rangers they're dominating right now most action in the Rangers zone. Looks like us yesterday!

Haha, or at least drawn the penalty shot.

Did Pierre just compare Glass Stoll to Henrique?

Lol.

God this game is boring. It's Hank versus the Debs.

Edit: I see the Debs pulling this out in 5 games. Also, Hank's style reminds me so much of Bernier. So positionally sound.

Sydor25 05-14-2012 10:01 PM

NY 1-0. Game over? :sarcasm:

Ziggy Stardust 05-14-2012 10:06 PM

This has been such an ugly hockey game. Just chip and chase on both ends of the ice. New Jersey is starting to play very sloppily after giving up the first goal of this series.
