2012 Mastercard Memorial Cup Thread

The Mastercard Memorial Cup will take place from May 17th to May 27th in Shawinigan, QC. The 4 teams participating will be the Shawinigan Cataractes (QMJHL), London Knights (OHL), Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL), and the Edmonton Oil Kings (WHL). All Memorial Cup talk will go here.

Royal Canuck 05-15-2012 12:04 PM

Our Edmonton Oil Kings play the host Shawinigan Cataractes this Friday at 7PM local time.

I have a very hard time cheering for a WHL team in the Memorial Cup and yet when the tournament begins I'm usually behind them.

Except for those damn, dirty Rockets. Was a HUGE Windsor fan in 2009.

Who are the players for Edmonton theyll lean on for success in this tourney?
Looking at the stats for the playoffs they seem to be a balanced group offensively and a D first team, like the Knights.
Pysyk Ive seen but am looking for a bit of a scouting report on the rest.
#1 line, checking line, style of play?

Good luck OilKing fans!

Edmonton has a lot of depth, that's why they beat Portland. Guys like St. Croix, Foster, Rachinski, Lazar, Pysyk, Wruck, Reinhart, Lowe, all those guys play key roles.

Oilersfan21 05-17-2012 04:56 PM

Wruck is injured, and at the moment jordan Peddle has been lighting it up. Maxwell is also playing good. The oil kings have a good chance to win the whole tournament.

My money is on the Sea Dogs, personally.

Sea dogs have a good chance too. A solid line up with depth.

Good start to the tournament for the Oil Kings tonight :handclap:

Oilersfan21 05-18-2012 10:41 PM

Oil kings should of walked all over shawinigan if they want a chance vs. saint John. They will have to have a much better start vs saint John and be much better defensively

Royal Canuck 05-19-2012 02:54 PM

I thought Edmonton was going to run over Shawinigan, looks like the host team doesn't have a bad team after all.

They are strong defensively and block alot of shots.

Royal Canuck 05-20-2012 03:00 PM

London defeats the Sea Dogs 5-3.

Royal Canuck 05-21-2012 01:34 AM

Shawinigan beats London 6-2.

aresknights 05-23-2012 11:14 AM

London beats Edmonton 4-1

Royal Canuck 05-23-2012 04:16 PM

looks like London is the new favorite to win the tournament.

Royal Canuck 05-24-2012 01:54 AM

Saint John beats Shawinigan 4-1 and advances to semi-final. Edmonton will play Shawinigan in a tie-breaker game for a berth in the semi-finals against Saint John.

Royal Canuck 05-25-2012 02:59 PM

Edmonton is eliminated by Shawinigan, good run by the Oil Kings though.

Royal Canuck 05-28-2012 12:42 AM

And that's it! Shawinigan defeats London 2-1 in OT to win the MasterCard Memorial Cup! unbelievable.

Rocko604 05-28-2012 09:48 AM

Was pulling for London after Shawi beat Saint John, but as stated in another thread, they beat the 3 league champions, back to back to back. Host team or not, that's pretty damn impressive. Only the second team in history to win the Cup after playing the tie-breaker.

Royal Canuck 06-14-2012 03:53 PM

well, looks like this thread has died, if you want to talk about the Memorial Cup, check out the Canadian Junior Hockey forum.
