Martin Brodeur comments: shoot to injure

“They’re hot at blocking shots,” he said, according to the New York Post. “We might be able to hurt a few guys (by) hitting one-timers in the foot and their head or something.

What an odd thing to admit. How is that any different then what the New Orleans Saints were just punished for?

Well first off, there's no money involved?

kyle evs48 05-16-2012 08:48 AM

Leave it to Chariot to blow it out of proportion.

Comparing it to the Saints? Really?

Matt4776 05-16-2012 08:49 AM

butbutbut... He's the greatestzororsrest goalie of all tiem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is what, about the 5th thread a Ranger fan has started about NJ in the last 3 days. Worry about your own team.

Surprise, surprise.

Good, glad someone (Marty) had the balls to say it.

GregSirico 05-16-2012 08:50 AM

and people wonder why I can not ********** stand Marty

RedBruin 05-16-2012 08:51 AM

What's wrong with what he said ? Non-issue.

kyle evs48 05-16-2012 08:51 AM

He should not have said that, but comparing it to the Saints situation is absurd.

If they the guy was on the ice after the play was over and then took a shot into
their knee or head then you would have a Saints situation, sans $$.

But if a I guy chooses to lay down in front of a slap shot and he gets hurt by getting hit by said slap shot, then that is on the guy who chooses to lay down.

That is a remarkably reasonable amount ... :dunno:

Black and Gold 05-16-2012 08:52 AM

Well it will make them think twice about blocking shots, which is proabably what NJ wants.

Ranger fans get a hard on for anything Brodeur related.

Ih8theislanders 05-16-2012 08:52 AM

Classless, but not unexpected.

There is a difference between accidentally getting hit by a puck to the head and maliciously looking to aim for a head with intent to injure someone.

onefatsurfer 05-16-2012 08:53 AM

If they want to put their foot/face directly in a shooting lane, that's their decision, and injuries will come from that, which would benefit the Devils. If the Devils start purposely head-hunting, that's a different story, but nowhere in this quote does it suggest that the Devils are purposely aiming for vulnerable areas on the shot blockers. Getting a shot through to the net > possibly injuring someone with a shot that's blocked.

Either way, suggesting that the Devils might start aiming for the head is pretty strong intimidation, IMO. No f*ing way am I diving down to the ice to block a one-timer if I think they might purposely aim the shot at my face

You're putting words in his mouth. No where did he say they were going to intentionally go out of their way to shoot at their heads, that would be ridiculous.

God forbid Ryan Callahan takes a puck to the head tonight. Now we all know these guys risk everything every shift, it can always happen.

But the star player on the Devils telling reporters his players should shoot one timers at the Rangers heads is lame.

Hockey often skates a bit under the radar in NYC but not now. Right now everyone is paying attention and excited about hockey and this series...

way to go Marty

martyisgod 05-16-2012 08:54 AM

so you think he is saying instead of trying to get shots to the net, look for their foot and try to hit it? maybe Id say the same thing if it was Henrik that said it about the Devils, but I'd be chalking that up to taking it out of context, which may be the case here

The guy who said it on Boomer and Carton sounded like a d-bag too.

Wasn't he smirking when he said ut?

Well, **** happens when you decided to lay down on the ice every time the opposing player winds up for a slapshot. Deal with it.

britdevil 05-16-2012 08:55 AM

Ranger fans create more Devils related threads than we do. It's funny.

Anyway, context Chariot.
