Sjs-stl

How is this trade?

Marleau and Demers

for

Stewart and D'Agostini

Robes of Teal 05-19-2012 09:53 PM

terrible, absolutely terrible

I wouldn't mind those guys on the Sharks, but Marleau would get alot more and Blues dont need another right dman.

umwoz 05-19-2012 09:58 PM

Chris Stewart is rather underwhelming aside from what he has shown he can be for inconsistent stretches. Doesn't Marleau have an NTC that he signed because he is fairly rooted in SJ?

crackerjack 05-19-2012 10:00 PM

San Jose hangs up right away, what a joke!

JayP812 05-19-2012 10:03 PM

Awful, value is waaay off and Sharks really have no reason to do it.

hockeyball 05-19-2012 10:49 PM

I happen to like Stewart, but yah, we'd need more. Marleau is a star player who is signed at a reasonable rate for another two seasons. He's going to demand a big return (assuming we CAN even trade him).

Basically, I'd want Stewart and Shattenkirk, which I realize will be a non-starter.

Neither a LWer or a RHD are needed on the Blues. We need a 3rd line or higher center and a top pairing LHD.

TheJuxtaposer 05-19-2012 11:17 PM

Horrible, horrible for the Sharks.

Marleau plays center BTW, he would end up being on your top line and bumping someone down.

Hell no to the deal though

Clowe Me 05-20-2012 12:35 AM

Clowe and Demers

Stewart and Russell?

This trade is terrible. Two 3rd liners for a star and a good young dman.

Crumblin Erb Brooks 05-20-2012 01:54 AM

Blues dont want Marleaus contract, They may be able to afford it, but it would suck up most of our available budget.

We don't need Demers

Definately one of the worst proposals I've seen in a while

The worst part about it is that the value is off AND neither team does it.

Not defending the proposal but coming from the guy who proposed Thornton + Prospect for Plekanec and 2013 1st, that's hilarious.

DuckEatinShark 05-20-2012 02:31 PM

As bad as Marleau was in the playoffs, I wouldn't even trade him for that package alone, let alone tossing in our young PMD.

A deal around Clowe for Stewart makes more sense for us, but I doubt STL would go for it.

Stillflexin* 05-21-2012 10:19 PM

Weren't all the Sharks fans at the end of the series beggng to get rid of Marleau, but now he is god?

Hyperbole much? Just because we want to get rid of him in the heat of the moment, after getting eliminated, doesn't mean we're ready to throw him in the bargain bin.

Yeah. Just because this fan base severely underappreciates Marleau horribly, doesn't mean management does.

What part of "I don't want to trade him for Stewart and D'Agostini" screams that he's "god"?

The bargain bin? He makes 6.9 Million per season. For an aging veteran centre who is clearly on the decline of his career, that doesn't seem like much of a bargain to me. :shakehead

How is that funny? He'll be 33 next season and has had about a 10 point drop in production his last 3 consecutive seasons. And I'm not just basing his 'decline' on numbers either...anyone who watched him in the playoffs could tell you he's not quite the same player we saw in the past.

Yeah, 5 games is a great indication of one's abilities... How many points did Pietrangelo score in that series again? Backes? Oshie? How about Shattenkirk, who was plain awful?

Of course he's declining. But it's not a particularly fast decline and he's still a very good player. The point is this is a very, very bad deal for the Sharks. Of course it doesn't make sense for the Blues, but Marleau put up 5 more goals that Stewart and D'Agostini combined last season. He's not a cap dump, so quit acting like he's Horcoff or Bouwmeester.
