They’ve been a resilient group all year and they showed that tonight. They executed really well and that’s the bottom line.” (on the Phoenix goals…) “That was very much the way they won games all year. They hang around and find a way to score some goals. They got a goal off a faceoff and a power-play goal, and that was the difference.’’ (on not being able to close out the series…) “We dropped this one, and we’ll just get ready to go. We’ve got another chance to close it out on Tuesday.’’ (on trying to win Game 5 on the road…) “This time of year, I don’t know if it makes a difference whether you’re on the road or you’re at home. We’ve been successful on the road in these playoffs. We need to have a good game on Tuesday if we want to finish this series.’’ (on losing the faceoff battle and special-teams battle…) “I think they have won the face-off battle all series long. Tonight, it cost us a goal, a quick bang-bang play. Our power play has been struggling. I thought we had some good opportunities tonight, but we didn’t have any goals, and at the end of the day that cost us the game."

We lost the special-teams battle tonight, and we’ve got to make sure we correct that on Tuesday.’’ (on how to improve the power play…) “Just shooting more and simplify a little more. We have to get some bodies in front of the net and make it tough on Smith.’’ (on trying to wrap up the series in Phoenix…) “We’re still in a good position. We have to hit the reset button, refocus and make sure we have a lot of energy for Tuesday.’’ (on the game…) “We got some chances that we couldn’t bear down. Maybe we didn’t put as many bodies in front of the net as we wanted to and it eventually cost us."

They played well and we can play better. We need to respond better than that.” (on possible adjustments for Game 5…) “We just have to get more traffic in front of Smith. We need to try to get more O-zone time, eliminate some turnovers and try and get them off their game."

Their PK was really good and they got a power-play goal. So, they definitely earned this one, and we couldn’t find an answer for Smith.’’ (on the pressure the Kings put on Smith…) “Well, it wasn’t good enough. You talk about screen, tip, rebound, and we didn’t get enough of that tonight. We let him see too many pucks, and we didn’t get enough second chances.’’ (on playing too much from the perimeter…) “I think that’s what I alluded to there. It was just kind of, one and done.’’ (on not getting a power-play goal…) “It would have been nice. They earned this one. There’s not much more we can say. We’re going to regroup and, like I said, it’s a good lesson for us.’’ (on Mike Smith’s game…) “He’s been a great goalie for them all year. As forwards, we’ve got to do something different, or a little bit better, to make him work harder, and not just be satisfied with getting the puck on net, but maybe picking a spot or trying to beat him clean or putting it off his pads so we can get a rebound goal. We’ve had success doing that, so we have to get back to that."

They played well. They fought hard. Smith played well. Certainly, on the other hand, we certainly need to be better.’’ (on whether the game was about Phoenix’s strengths or the Kings’ shortcomings…) “It’s probably obviously two-fold. They executed their game plan and stuck to it the whole game. We had almost 40 shots, but not as good of quality as we wanted, and usually that’s the story when the other team beats you.’’ (on not being able to close out the series…) “As much as it would be nice to go 16-1, it’s pretty darn hard. We weren’t expecting to do that. This is a really, really good team we’re playing against. They played really, really well tonight. This is a series, and we need to come out in Game 5 with the initiative and push back.’’ (on what changes he saw from the Coyotes…) “There was certainly a lot less time that we had with the puck tonight. That was certainly because they took a lot of our time away. As I said, it’s usually a game of will. They had the better of the play tonight.’’ (on his goalie-interference penalty…) “They just told me to stay away from the goalie. It’s certainly a tough call. I didn’t like it, but at the same time, that could have been forgotten if we had scored a power-play goal. … I was obviously not trying to interfere with him, but that wasn’t the difference in the game."

Originally Posted by KINGS Head coach DARRYL SUTTER, post-game thoughts :

They finished ahead of us for a good reason. So there’s not much difference in the teams. I’ve said to you guys who aren’t used to covering hockey, and watching playoffs a lot, that the most important parts of playoffs are goaltending, special teams and how your top players play.’’ (on why the Kings have had road success…) “Why, is because we’re not a home-ice team. We’ve had to start every series on the road, and it’s a tough league to get down in a series. It’s like a lead in a game. You want a 1-0 game lead or a 1-0 series lead. That’s the truth.’’ (on the Kings’ lack of power-play success and whether it was a “sleepy’’ start for the Kings…) “First off, the power play, if you just look at zone time, we probably had it in there most of the time. You start each series on its own. We scored the two 5-on-3 goals, which made a difference, which won us a game there. Tonight, the power play, we had looks up top and we took too much time. I haven’t really looked at it, but I’m going to bet that Gordon and Vermette and probably Pyatt blocked more shots, and pucks just hitting them in the pads. Quite honestly, that’s just poor shooting on our part, from up top, from guys that are supposed to take that shot. The start, you know, they scored — I don’t even know how many chances they had in the first period, but we had some great chances that, if you look at the series, most goals are screens, tips, rebounds in the last game. I’m not sure, tonight, that we enough actual screen on them.’’ (on the Kings’ lack of forecheck success…) “They had a really strong forecheck. It had nothing to do with ours. It was theirs. I think we had some guys who had some trouble adjusting to the pace of how they played. All of a sudden, you’re not going to stop forechecking because you won a game or you lost a game. It really has no bearing on anything. Both teams have an identity, and if they play to their identity then it’s a close game, and that’s what it was tonight. They scored a goal on a goalie rim and a soft play out of the corner on Doan, and they score off a faceoff. Their captain took charge of the game. Say what you want."

When you do those things, you give yourself a better chance to win. Smith was excellent. Our penalty killing was excellent. We kind of ground out a win.’’ (on doing the best job of playing to the Coyotes’ style…) “Yeah. Part of it is getting a lead and part of it is I just think we had more people jump harder into the battle tonight. When that happens, you can find some more successes. The big success of winning is all about what you do to get the win. I didn’t think we were working hard enough in some battles in key areas. Tonight we were better in those areas. We got a couple goals. We made them stand up.’’ (on the team’s psyche going forward…) “We’re worried about the way we played. Obviously our goal going into today’s game was to push it home. We think our fans will be riled up when we’re on home ice. We got a chance to stay alive again. We’re going to go home feeling like we can grab some momentum out of this game. There’s some areas we can certainly embrace that we did better in this game than the other games in this series. You go home and try to push it along again. We’re in the same situation.’’ (on the spirit of the team…) “Well, we talked last night in a meeting about how we hadn’t thought we’d played as well as we’d like in this series. We’d been through a lot of battles together. We might as well continue battling for a while. That was what the mindset was going in. We put too much work in to let this slip away. It’s time to see if we can work back a little bit. We put that work in tonight and we got ourselves one, and now we’re going to strive to do that and see if we can up that for two."

NOTE : Regarding LARGE SIZE IMAGES / YELLOW RE-SIZE IMAGE BARS ABOVE PICS, let me offer up one nice little suggestion ...
This will get rid of those pesky yellow resize bars over the top of some larger pictures ... as they annoy the hell out of me and maybe they do you also ?
- Go into/click on your "USER CP" {control Panel} up top left in the red bars
- on the left under 'Settings & Options' click on "Edit Options"
- scroll down to 'Thread Display Options', and then 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- click on the 'Drop Down List Box' over on the Right of 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- select it to "KEEP ORIGINAL SIZE"
- SAVE your selections !
There ... now don't that look MUCH BETTER

Well, with the Lakers and Clippers done, the ice should be a little bit better now at least.

Jetteroheller 05-22-2012 04:38 AM

Go Kings Go!!! :m-dance:

SuperAlmeida 05-22-2012 05:23 AM

I'm not sure if that's an advantage for us! We're not the fastest team!

Muzzfan 05-22-2012 07:49 AM

Go Kings Go!

Capn Brown 05-22-2012 08:21 AM

Kill them give them as they give us

Everyone needs to step up and carry the twam on their back.
If you can give 120% carry one of them too

Kings4thecup 05-22-2012 09:31 AM

Let's go get this one, boys. Close them out now. We need Dave.

Brad Doty 05-22-2012 09:58 AM

Oh ****ing a. I can't believe it when I look at the ticker...5 more wins would mean a Stanley Cup comes to L.A. So surreal.

I have a good feeling about this one. 3-0 Kings. Quick bounces back, Smith plays well but can't outduel him. Get er done! Looking forward to the real, angry Kings returning.

CNS 05-22-2012 10:11 AM

Didn't post in the last thread before the game. Sorry for that.

**** in their coffee. Stab their children's favorite teddy bears! Call them phonies. Hand a $20 to the ref! :sarcasm:

Butch 19 05-22-2012 10:17 AM

Just finish them.

I'm so tired of reading Coyote fans excuses and pie in the sky theories. Bring on some east coast smack.

Knight of the Realm 05-22-2012 10:18 AM

Go Kings Go!

Please win.

Sydor25 05-22-2012 10:23 AM

Kings need a shorthanded goal. We all know that the Kings PP will not score 5-on-4.

If Lewis had scored on that breakaway in game 4, the Kings probably win. :(
