Hamilton named best defenseman in the CHL

Dougie Hamilton continues to win awards, this time the top defenseman in Canadian junior hockey. Well done and welcome to Boston.

Dougie Hamilton of the Niagara IceDogs won the Post Defenceman of the Year award after picking up 72 points in only 50 games. Hamilton was drafted ninth overall by the Boston Bruins last June. He beat out Jerome Gauthier-Leduc of the Rimouski Oceanic and Alex Petrovic of the Red Deer Rebels.

"With last year being drafted and the whole journey I've been on, this is special," said Hamilton.

I have a feeling he will end up being more valueable than Seguin to this team

Dellstrom 05-27-2012 12:39 AM

**** I can't wait until next year.

Also, wKetch, I said it when I saw his twitter for the first time, but god damn, that is a badass picture.

I hope so because Seguin is extremely valuable to this team.

Bruins really lucked out with this pick. Can't wait till he has a full season here with Chara, time under Julien and with Whitesides bulking him up.

8thRoundPick 05-28-2012 11:33 AM

Anyone recently mention for the billionth time that we got this guy, AND Seguin, AND Knight, all for Phil the Thrill?

Well played Peter, well played.

rocketdan9 05-28-2012 02:38 PM

Thnk you kessel. i dont even think fans are mocking him when the chant happens. really thanks

Braunbaer 05-28-2012 03:06 PM

Amazing how most guys think he is going to be sure Norris-winner.
He hasn't played a single game in the NHL yet. Give him some time, don't overestimate him yet ... or ever.

...funny, some said the same thing about that Crosby kid while playing in jr's...

Welcome to Boston Dougie...I KNOW you will be a beast in the years to come.

Not comparable in the slightest. Even then it was ridiculous. Recall Daigle by any chance?

Defensemen are very difficult to project and it is particularly difficult for defensemen to fit in Boston's system. A lot of people should temper expectations. If he becomes a reliable top four dman. He was a good pick.

bruinswincup 05-28-2012 04:05 PM

He's a BEAST.

Every high draft pick is a future beast, elsewhise they wouldn't be high draft picks.
There are enough 1st-round busts. I'm not saying DH will suck, but he has yet to play in the NHL.

Neely08 05-28-2012 04:59 PM

Awesome.

We could see this beast late in the season :naughty: Thank you Mr Kessel for wanting out of Boston :handclap:

Well that is a cogent well reasoned analysis.

it is possible Dougie will fail to live up to expectations, but I think the bruins have a pretty good system in place to work with and develop young players, and he comes in to develop behind a Norris winner and true giant of a man on and off the ice, so I think he will be taught well.

He has basically done everything the Bruins could have hoped for since he was drafted, and really he has done a good bit more.

8Neely8 05-28-2012 09:47 PM

Not sure that is a good comparable either...daigle maintained that after he was drafted that his heart was never really in the game...and that he "did it for the cash"....Dougie and his brother have always maintained that they want to be the best they can be and excel in the sport...The "hunger" alone separates these two examples

Plus, there are not many 6'5 200lbs 18 year olds (and still growing/bulking up...sick) coming out of jr hockey with a resume like Dougies (d-man of the year, pts, etc)...if this kid stays healthy and has big Z mentoring him ...he will be the beast that "most of us" think he will be

Winning the best defenseman award in the CHL is a terrific accomplishment.

What is the point of your comment?

In this small sample size of posters in this particular thread, and others, I have yet to read one fan who has him lined up to be a "sure Norris-winner"

Most hockey experts, scouts and I suspect many GM`s would probably be in agreement that the kid is a special talent, and if he keeps his head on straight, remains coachable, the sky is the limit for him.......but nobody has his name etched quite yet on a Norris
