KHL to play 2 regular season games in Brooklyn's Barclay's Center '13 (UPD:cancelled)
RT @dchesnokov: #KHL President has announced the League will play two regular season games in Brooklyn next winter.
RT @dchesnokov: According to Medvedev, the short list of #KHL teams to play in Brooklyn are: Dynamo, CSKA, Avangard, Salavat Yulaev and SKA. |
Strange. It will be great for Russian fans to get a chance to see these teams but as far as expanding the fan base into North America, I just don't see it happening.
If Tarasenko doesn't sign with St. Louis and resigns with SKA, then SKA plays in Brooklyn, I'll be in Brooklyn.
Well, if there is labour issues and the beginning of NHL season is postponed and those KHL games scheduled to early season, those teams could actually have some high profile (Russian) NHLers in their roster.
There already is a North American hockey league equivalent to the KHL, it's called the American Hockey League and it's been around since 1940.
Depending on the teams and ticket prices, I may go. Sounds like a chance to watch some teams and players I don't normally get to watch.

The AHL does not have billionaires as owners. KHL is just starting up, it will become good. AHL has been around since 1940 and the KHL had been around 4 Years. |
KHL has steadily been getting more 4A players, mainly because of money. If you don't think they're better than the AHL, it's conceivable that they could soon.
The KHL is a bush a league no matter who is backing it. We're talking about a culture where Sergei Fedorov swears he was married to Anna Kournakova while she completely denies it and it's no big thing. Until Russia becomes less dangerous and less corrupt it will always be risky playing in the KHL. It will always be the last resort for players that did not grow up in Russia.
There was a report when the KHL expanded that the KHL will try what some the NHL will try in 20 years or so and have teams on another continent.
hello haters))) I hope the tickets are reasonable, I will come from Boston
AHL isn't even in top5 leagues worldwide, let alone being comparable to KHL.

I like the fact that the KHL is having games in Bettman's backyard. Anything to thumb Bettman Inc. in the eye is good for the fans and the players. |

Good for them. If they want to try out having games in North America then why not? Doubt it hurts anything.
I'd go if it were closer to me but I have a feeling it will be a little bit hilarious. The smaller ice would make some of their tactics fail horribly. I wonder how far ahead they will plan their tactics for just these two games
It would be interesting to see the KHL start a North American division.

If I don't have any important commitments I'm going to go.

Going. When are tickets going on sale?
DHL has a hockey league? Who are they playing, Fedex or UPS? Oh, wait a minute..
Or is it "Kanadian Hockey League" ;) |

Nothing finalized (yet). Dates would be MLK weekend (January 2013). |
I'll definitely be there. Really looking forward to it.
It makes sense when you remember who owns the Barclay Centre...
