WJC Preview-U.S.A. picked to win again!!!Canada in 3rd
Alvaro Montoya. The first-round pick of the Rangers last June backstopped the Americans to the gold medal last year, which should give him an edge heading into this tournament. His ability to handle the puck is an added plus for a team that will try to play an up-tempo game at all times :)
The Americans are no longer the hunters, but rather the hunted--newfound territory for USA hockey. That said, there's still a lot of talent and character on the 2005 roster. With more confidence than ever before, and a partisan crowd in Grand Forks to cheer them on, look for USA to repeat as WJC champions. In the end, it will come down to the experience factor between the pipes (Montoya) :handclap:
Talk about pressure...
if Montoya can pull-out a good showing, he'd be taking the next step to becoming the real deal.
But, it ain't going to be easy, that's for sure. Canada is stacked. I hear Russia's team's going to look pretty good too, with Ovechkin leading the way. It's going to be an interesting tournament...I better set my TiVo to it...
It's definitely a lot of pressure Fletch. But it should also be a challenge for Al and his teammates to repeat. Most are proclaiming that Canada has its best ever team and should be a lock. Let's see what happens when they play the games.
I'm equally as excited that Callahan should have a decent role. Can't wait to see what he can do.
P.S. I also think the Czech team is loaded and could be the sleeper.
