Penguins Sign Forward Dominik Uher

Quote:

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed forward Dominik Uher, to a three-year entry-level contract, it was announced today by executive vice president and general manager Ray Shero.

Uher was drafted by the Penguins in the fifth round (144 overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft. The deal begins with the 2012-13 season and runs through the 2014-15 campaign.

The 6-foot, 195-pound forward has produced 58 goals and 144 points in 181 regular-season games with Spokane from 2009-2012. He contributed 20 points (seven goals, 13 assists) in 36 postseason contests with the Chiefs.

The native of Ostvava, Czech Republic represented his country at the 2012 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championships in December, notching three points (one goal, two assists) in six games during the tournament.

Good signing. Is he projected to be a third liner?

Antaris 06-01-2012 04:55 PM

Wingar fo Crosbehhh!

It'll be interesting what he can bring to camp, if he's any solid at nhl-level.

I highly doubt it. The transition from the Dub straight to the NHL is one that very few make. Shero is probably just restocking WB, in anticipation of some players who are ready to make the jump.

I feel like he could be Vitale 2.0 eventually.

Shrimper 06-01-2012 07:23 PM

Ahl season next year.

He's probably better right now. Extremely more skilled. Just scored 33 goals in juniors

Gaborik's skating and scoring with Dustin Brown's physical play and Henrik Lundqvist's good looks.

I've heard Talbot but I've only seen him play once & don't really remember it so don't take my word for it.

I would compare him to Max Lapierre. Some scoring potential, got some pest in his game, and always finishes checks

I'll take that. I always hated when the pens have to play against him. Don't ask why but i just did.

So you're saying I'm going to despise him? Great

Kennedy replacement, although he wouldn't solve the problem of Kennedy being undersized / easy to knock around in the playoffs unless he "plays big". However he might be more skilled based on the numbers.

This is proof Shero loves Euros! :sarcasm:

Looking forward to seeing how Uher does in WBS. Like everything I heard about him so far. Could turn out to be a player.

Sounds like he has Dustin Rose type upside.

jmelm 06-02-2012 12:27 PM

I think the Talbot comparison is probably closest to the type of impact he can have. Good 3rd or very good 4th liner who can step up on occasion and play special teams. He seems to have decent inherent skill, and great hustle to his game. Doesn't have the great speed of Vitale, but is a better skater than Talbot.

He'll play at least 2, maybe 3 full seasons in WBS, and has the chance to be a top-6 forward at the AHL level, and therefore should have a solid impact in WBS over the next few years.

wej20 06-02-2012 12:38 PM

WBS is going to exciting next year with legit offensive prospects like Kuhnhackl, Bennet and Morrow plus bottom 6 guys like Payerl and Uher.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Uher as their 2nd line C next year. I think he's a top-6 forward at the AHL level.

Fellow HFBoarder and WHL broadcaster/hockey guru Cody Nickolet made this comment about Uher on twitter the other day:

Very solid player. Skates well, great offensive instincts, goal scorers touch and should make a solid pro.
