Even though we got in late last night, you could feel the energy around the building, the dressing room. Tomorrow is going to be no different."

We’ve got to get better in Game 3, especially on home ice, and be ready to go and put forth a better effort than we started with the last two games.’’ (on needing patience to deal with the Devils’ forecheck…) “They’re going to create turnovers. That’s what they’ve been doing all playoffs. We’ve got to make sure we do better to combat that, but at the same time, I think it’s maybe not patience but just making the right play when it’s there. The play is there. You’ve just got to make it. That’s what they’re good at, is taking it away pretty quick. We’ve got to find a way to get around their forecheck and get through the neutral zone, because right now, they’re getting too much off of that and we’re not creating enough.’’ (on the great play by both goalies…) “There’s been good chances back and forth. Quickie has been great for us, the whole playoffs and all year, and he did it again tonight."

I got a lot of texts and a lot of phone calls and whatnot, but we’re back at it tomorrow night, so we have to move on from that and get ready. (what did you see on the game winner? What were your thoughts immediately afterwards?…) Well, it was a great play by the D. I think it was Marty to get it up quick. Just tried to turn and get it to the net. I tried to hit Penns’ back door. It kind of popped out to me. I had someone’s stick in the lane there. Just tried to get out of the way, get it on net. (you had some big ones in Philly. Where would this one rank?…) I think this is by far the biggest. I think it’s my first playoff overtime goal. It’s a huge one. It’s a big one for the team. Gets us a two game lead here. Gets us where we wanted to be coming in here. (are you looking for the blocker on that one or just shooting to put it on the net?…) Just looking for anything really (laughter). Playoff hockey, you put it on the net as much as you can. It’s usually a cheesy goal. But Penns did a great job of getting right in front of Marty there. To be honest, I don’t even know if he saw around Penns, or if he saw the shot. (in the context of the last 12 months, the trade. A moment like tonight make up for a lot of that aggravation?…) Yeah, it’s a pretty special moment, I think. Obviously, anytime you get a chance to play in the finals, it’s exciting. But scoring an overtime goal Game2, put you up 2-0, it’s pretty special. (Were there any lessons you learned from the Philadelphia series that you carry over to this series?…) Being in Philly, we played against Marty a lot. Played against the Devils. I think for myself and Mike, we know a lot of their tendencies.
I think they’ve kind of opened their game up a little more than what we usually were. There’s still some things you have to adjust to. It definitely helps. (You are nice and humble. It’s almost as if you’re underplaying the fact you scored two very artistic goals. Do you regard them in that way?…) A goal is a goal to me no matter how it goes in, so… Dewey made a great play end-to-end. Great shot. Mine was lucky enough to find the back of the net with big Penns in front there."

Our goalie made some saves, same as theirs. (How would you say your team played tonight?…) I thought it was a helluva battle. What did you think? Were you happy with how our team played tonight? Tough building. You just finished playing a team with the most home wins in the Stanley Cup Playoffs that played hard. (Can you talk a little bit about Jeff Carter, the winning goal…) Good to see him score, right? Marty made some highlight saves tonight against good shooters. So good to see him score. I don’t even know if you saw it. There’s probably Penner. Even from the bench it was hard to see where it was going. (The overtime, the Devils got a lot of chances. What was key for your team besides the great play of Quick to keep the puck out of the net?…) Both teams had a lot of chances and surges. (Since you acquired Jeff Carter, he’s played at high levels throughout his career. Can you describe the level of poise that he showed out there tonight …) He’s a goal scorer. You know what, you’re counting on him to score a big goal. (On Doughty’s goal …) Made a great play. You know what, a 200 foot play, right? One of them coast-to-coast things. You’ll look at a lot of times. Win or lose, that’s a great play. (I know each series is a different set of circumstances. To go up 2-0 in the other building four straight rounds, you’ve never seen that in all your time. How does that happen? … ) Tonight was heavy lifting. You know, it was along the boards. Their defense are coming down. Quite honest, for probably a good part of two periods, they were controlling that part of the boards, so… Hey, you know what, we’ll have our work cut out going home. (How about the team’s road record now? … Still undefeated …) We got to go home. We got to play at home. I’d hate to say that we went undefeated on the road."

You know, came up one goal short.” (on putting Parise, Kovalchuk and Zajac together on a line…) “We decided the end of two periods to shuffle some lines. It wasn’t necessarily to put those three together. That was part of it. But we mixed up and got Elias, Zubrus and Henrique together. I like how they played. It was just a shot in the arm to try to find a goal. We haven’t scored enough, obviously.” (on the good play from the Devils’ fourth line…) “Yeah, they scored the goal for us in the third. They did their part. They have the entire playoff. We just have to keep getting efforts like that from them.” (on getting more shot blocks and deflections in Game 2…) “That’s something we’ve been trying to do the entire playoff. We just played a much better game tonight. We spent more time in their end of the ice, got more shots through to the net, got more points shot. It wasn’t an adjustment. That’s our game. We just executed better tonight than we did Game 1."

NOTE : Regarding LARGE SIZE IMAGES / YELLOW RE-SIZE IMAGE BARS ABOVE PICS, let me offer up one nice little suggestion ...
This will get rid of those pesky yellow resize bars over the top of some larger pictures ... as they annoy the hell out of me and maybe they do you also ?
- Go into/click on your "USER CP" {control Panel} up top left in the red bars
- on the left under 'Settings & Options' click on "Edit Options"
- scroll down to 'Thread Display Options', and then 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- click on the 'Drop Down List Box' over on the Right of 'Please Select the Resize Mode'
- select it to "KEEP ORIGINAL SIZE"
- SAVE your selections !
There ... now don't that look MUCH BETTER

Me too. First Stanley Cup Finals game ever for me. I'm both excited and terrified!

KingsKnight 06-04-2012 01:34 AM

Will be going to the game tomorrow night, my first Final game :) Like every game I'm cautiously optimisitic, but I think Sutter will have the boys ready. I have a feeling that this will be the toughest game for us. We're probably in for the biggest Devils pushback so far. Still, I think we have what it takes, and I think the home crowd will be a huge motivator.
