Okay.

This makes me happy if only because it reminds me how bad Fleury was.

Stewie G 06-04-2012 10:16 AM

The risk/reward here doesn't seem to be worth it, but meh. Maybe GMGM knows Vokoun's groin is pretty bad and isn't concerned that he might have a good season in Pittsburgh.

Fleury is so bad they paid an asset for a ufa with an absolutely shredded groin. I had assumed Vokuon would have to go to someone's training camp without a contract.

Should have held out for a 6th though.

stanleycaps98 06-04-2012 10:18 AM

This is a steal. Why on god's green earth would the Penguins give up a bag of pucks, much less an actual draft pick?

It's a start. Now do Semin and Wideman!

CapsWolverinesUSA 06-04-2012 10:31 AM

Something for nothing. We couldn't stop him from signing with the Pens on July 1, so might as well accept a free pick now.

Langway 06-04-2012 10:33 AM

@RenLavoieRDS: Contract for Tomas Vokoun. 2 years / 4 million total.

bonzilla 06-04-2012 10:33 AM

And what of Johnny Jump-up?

fedfed 06-04-2012 10:34 AM

As CapsWolverinesUSA pointed out, that's something for nothing trade. Same with Hamill/Bourque. I'm happy with it. Grrreat. No irony, but that's a well done job by GMGM. We've got two assets out of nothing.

He was *bad.* Hope he can get a chance to redeem himself somewhere but it wouldn't shock me to see him head to Europe if he can make it work family-wise.

Carlzner 06-04-2012 10:37 AM

What? Why Pittsburgh? ****

brs03 06-04-2012 10:39 AM

Man will the goalie market be fun to watch now. Vokoun was, what, the biggest UFA option out there? And he's signed by a team that, if you had asked yesterday, probably wouldn't have been mentioned as looking for anything this offseason.

Risk/reward isn't worth it here...with here being Pittsburgh, right?

This is an old UFA, who suffered a pretty bad injury and wasn't all that happy in town(see: Probably not going to re-sign)...and somehow we got something for him and that's...bad?

Ovechkins Wodka 06-04-2012 10:45 AM

can we get an asset for semin and wideman assuming they are gone.

would detroit trade something for widemans rights

I never get it. If you get a guy through FA and flip him into a pick, all you've done is basically buy a pick. If the owners willing to front the cash, does it matter?

Vokun may give us a headache next year but how bout a few years down the road? While we're gonna get some possible 20 something that could give them a headache in a few years.

That's gotta be pending a physical, right?

CapitalsCupFantasy 06-04-2012 10:50 AM

This is part of GMGM's master plan...trade his bad pickups to the enemy.

Vokoun wasn't even remotely close to a bad pickup,

Carlzner 06-04-2012 10:54 AM

Vokoun wasn't bad this year. Maybe the first... 1/3 of the year... he saved us in at least a handful of games.

Yeah, seriously. I'm kind of surprised by Vokoun's choice here. I guess what happened last year made him really wary of waiting.

It will be when they select the next Haar. :sarcasm:

Now they can pick up the other Rupert twin as well.
