I'm happy if he signs for less

The 40-year-old Czech winger had been away from the league for three seasons prior to 2011, playing with Avangard Omsk of Russia's Kontinental Hockey League.

Rumors of his desire to return to the NHL ignited after an impressive showing at the 2011 IIHF World Hockey Championships, where he scored nine points in nine games. He signed a one-year, $3.3 million deal with the Flyers, despite reports that he was close to returning to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

He probably will. He has to have realized how much he fell apart towards the end of the season and in the playoffs.

zbryne 06-06-2012 09:46 PM

not so sure if want

MsWoof 06-06-2012 10:10 PM

Awesome! While Homer is at it, Knuble, at 40, has been told the Caps won't re-sign him so let's offer him a contract, too.

The youth movement is something else!!

Top Cheese Danish 06-06-2012 10:12 PM

Guess we're not getting Radulov then.

:sarcasm:

flountown 06-06-2012 10:13 PM

While I was originally skeptical about this, they wouldn't be considering this without the top players' consent. Many of the sources reported that Claude was a huge proponent of bringing Jagr back, even though at the end of the season it seemed like a long shot.

Haute Couturier 06-06-2012 10:23 PM

So we'll have around $6M under the cap if he re-signs for the same amount. Awesome.

FreshPerspective 06-06-2012 10:24 PM

Well if Shelley is kept around b/c of his supposed locker room presence I cant see why not Jagr...the team does love the dude and he has def helped the culture. Jake can get another year of tutelage and it was Jagr that influenced Hartnell along with G to make more of a commitment to conditioning.

hckyplayer8 06-06-2012 10:54 PM

Not for anywhere near the amount of the past year.

We do need a player like him though.

Psuhockey 06-06-2012 11:09 PM

This makes things interesting. I image he will be sign for about the same, so around 3 mil. Voracek will be coming in around 3 mil too. If they are serious about resigning Carle, he will be about 5. That's 11 million with 61 million already signed for next year. How much will be left for a defensive upgrade?

That's a great point. To take that a bit further, Jagr could not fight the whole season, and he'd fill Shelley's role.

Roo Mad Bro 06-06-2012 11:27 PM

Jagr & Carle will both be back next year IMO.

flyershockey 06-06-2012 11:35 PM

He's the exact opposite type of player that the Flyers need. I understand that he's tight with Giroux, but he shouldn't be resigned. Hopefully his agent is just trying to gain press.

They won't upgrade the defense if that is the case. It will be the same roster next year if they don't make any trades. It would be interesting to see them stand pat for once, but it's with a roster that has obvious flaws that need to be addressed.

JDinkalage Morgoone 06-07-2012 12:18 AM

Maybe they can have a Couturier like pick in the draft that comes in and anchors the blue line! Can Dumba fall that far?

Semi-sarcasm.

flyersfan187 06-07-2012 02:28 AM

Jagr is a great player to have on the team and in the locker room. I would love to have him back.

Stockholm Syndrome 06-07-2012 05:03 AM

As long as its for less, I'm okay with this.

Xegiie 06-07-2012 05:12 AM

i jumped up from the chair reading this:D,i'm really happy he is most likely going to stay.
I know some ppl here will not be happy about it, but i can care less.

I believe Jags will prepare for next season better than for this one, not sure if we can expect more points, but we will see.

yay! :yo::handclap:

Calderone 06-07-2012 05:23 AM

In the last 23 regular season games Jagr had 3 goals.

In the Flyers 11 playoff games Jagr had ONE goal.

Thats 4 goals in the last 34 games hes played for the flyers.

Oh yeah, and I think he turns 64 next season.

He looked like he had nothing left, time to move on. Huge mistake re-signing him.

shipwreck 06-07-2012 07:40 AM

This is good news :)

Snotbubbles 06-07-2012 07:52 AM

Do not want. Time to give his minutes to the younger guys and let them sink or swim.

DrinkFightFlyers 06-07-2012 08:23 AM

Depending on what he signs for, I am ok with this. If its the same or less, then rock and roll. If he wants a raise (which it doesn't sound like he does) then he can go back to Russia.

philly_28 06-07-2012 08:32 AM

Maybe he's just pulling a Jagr, indicating he will sign with the Flyers and then unexpectedly sign with the Penguins.

Seriously though, if he gets around 1 million less than last season and him getting first line minutes is not one of the conditions I'm all for it.

Yup, and I think a lot of people did not factor that in when talks about whether or not Jagr would be back.

Protest 06-07-2012 08:48 AM

I hope it's 3 years $2 million a year because I love 35+ contracts and obnoxious Czech fans.
