Det - Pitt

To Det:
Paul Martin

To Pitts:
Tomas Jurco

Reasoning - Det lost both Lidstrom and Stuart this offseason. Martin replaces half of the lost minutes.

Pitts does this to clear some cap space to resign the core players and add a prospect.

Would Detriot who play's a far better defensive system (compared to Pitts) to suit Martin's style of play think about taking on 5mill for a top 4 D.

I also know that free agency could land Detroit Sutter or another D...... "IF" the UFA market does not yeld what Det is looking for could this trade make some semblance of reasonability?

Way better fish in the pond.

No thank you, there has to be something to the amount of hate Martin has earned from his fan base. Really not interested in giving up Jurco for him.

Thrace 06-11-2012 08:15 AM

Jurco has way too much potential for this deal to go through. I like Martin well enough, but even if he bounces back he's not a significant enough upgrade for the Wings d and there'll be as good / better options available for free in July.

Terrible Proposal. Brutal

Zetterberg4Captain 06-11-2012 08:53 AM

good lord, terrible

Henkka 06-11-2012 08:57 AM

Jiri Hudler's rights <> Paul Martin. :)

Nothing > Paul Martin @ $5mil

Howard35 06-11-2012 11:21 AM

No thanks. Martin is essentially what we all thought he would be, vastly overrated and now beyond vastly overpaid.

Why help out the pens?

Include Morrow and we'll happily take your garbage.

icKx 06-11-2012 11:37 AM

Lol no

WingedWheel1987 06-11-2012 11:38 AM

Sure why not? I love five million dollar d-men who play like one million dollar d-men.

Winger98 06-11-2012 11:40 AM

I think Martin is taking too much flak here. He's never evolved his offensive game, but he's safe, he plays in all situations, and he can eat minutes.

Would I want to deal Jurco for him? Not particularly, but Martin's not a hack.

Big Poppa Puck 06-11-2012 01:01 PM

Pass.

Human Thumb* 06-11-2012 01:10 PM

i like how he has one bad season out of 8 and he's suddenly a worthless overrated pylon

Martin was excellent in NJ. I'd love to have him.

Not for Jurco though. And he's be last resort at best.

also like that, according to some posters here, a proven top 4 defender isn't even worth a prospect who probably won't turn out to be much

Not for Jurco, but he wouldn't be a last resort. He's better than most defensemen available, better than Wideman.

I liked him in NJ, but I haven't gotten a chance to watch him much since he went to Pittsburgh. I really don't get the dislike for the guy, or why Pittsburgh would be looking to move him. Do they have some kids knocking on the door or something?

Kiddington 06-11-2012 02:23 PM

I'd take a shot on him, but not for Jurco.

Really though, he's not nearly as bad as everyone suggests. Disappointment offensively? Sure. Not living up to his contract? Okay. Total hackjob scrub? Not even close. Good in his own zone, decent puck-mover... I don't see really the problem here, other than his contract.

It wouldn't be my first choice, but if we're still looking to shore up on defense when all is said and done, I'd take him. Again though, just not for Jurco. Maybe something like Abdelkader + Kindl and a pick, if Pittsburgh is willing to bite on that (and I like Kindl, but it's become plainly clear that he has no future here).

SoupNazi 06-11-2012 02:27 PM

If the Pens include Staal, maybe.

Marky9er 06-11-2012 03:14 PM

jurco for despres insteadz

and compared against contracts that Ericsson, Grossman and others have gotten, Martin's deal doesn't look that bad in comparison. A little high, sure, but not freakishly so - especially with a $70m cap.
